Worst nightmare came true today as my inlaws insisted that I hive them the last of my home roast as a belated Christmas present

So in share desperation I turned to the local Woolies for a pick me up for when we hut the road tomorrow (hearing back to melbourne from Byron)

I grabbed the first bag of beans that I saw (there wasn't much to choose from) and threw them in the basket

But when I got home shock horror I discovered it was Vittoria DECAF!

Oh the shame ... Oh the humility (not to mention the humidity which plays havoc with your coffee...)

Thanks kk The frustrating thing is that I had carefully portioned controlled enough coffee to last the whole trip and my last bag would've got me home in good shape and good time Oh well maybe a quick trip to a local roaster is required...0

Thankfully the Bunn organic is good gear it's the coffee they serve in the cafe I've been consulting fir and it's roasted locally and replaced on the shelves each week Interestingly though the Bunn coffee is both fresh and certified organic and was $10.50 for 250g of beans in a redeemable bag w one way valve whereas in the IGA opposite the 'freshest' beans were roasted in April of 2010 w an average price of $11 for 200g - making them very stale and very expensive compared to the locally roasted product Go figure ?

(un)fortunately the outlaws have been sampling my home roast for some time now and bring Dutch they're very particular about everything including their coffee, and they loaded us up with presents for the little ones so it was only right that I offered them something in return I also kept 9 adults supplied with coffee over Christmas at a beach house in Bawley Point - which is no mean feet considering that my meticulous hand held brass Turkish Hon coffee grinder takes about ten minutes to grind enough for two people to finer than espresso consistency...

yeah they just came down and stayed at our new joint for 10 days inn total - luckily for me I've got a Mazzer Major at home for taking care of business!

My wife is originally from the Condong Range & Clothiers Creek areas They had banana farms there before moving to Brisbane She still reminisces about that general area fondly KK

the beach is fantastic and the climate is great and if memory serves me correctly there's a cafe in Bawley Point for sale for a reasonable amount which includes  freehold AND a four bedroom house!
