After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Firing someone for wanting a stool? Perhaps a misinterpretation on behalf of the manager and the stool sample that was "putting off" the customers was the daily single origin... ;D
  • Interesting but to be honest I could see how there would be a danger to other staff members.  Imagine having the stool in front of the coffee machine so she can make coffee, you are continually moving around in a making coffee situation and the stool would indeed cause difficultly if not a danger to people moving around her and for her herself having to move the stool to go from coffee to steaming milk if it was not within easy reach for her and then making cold drinks where you need to use a blender etc. She probably shouldn't have been fired but could have been placed in other areas where it wasn't paramount that she needed a stool to do her job. I also think that there is a need for the individual to assess what they can and can't do and don't expect that everyone will fall at their feet when they have a 'disability'.  They need to choose jobs where they can be an asset and not jobs where they can easily sue for something that they should have known in the first place. Just my opinion :)
  • There is always an engineering solution to just about everything it just needs a little thought? Perhaps a raised platform or step may have been a better solution This worker has dwarfism so my thoughts on a particular design is one that is a cantilevered 2 step stepper platform Its basically operated with ones hand pull down and it comes out push back and it retracts to be flush with the wall or cabinet KK
  • just can't quite understand how they got themselves into this, ie if this was going to be a problem, why did they employ her in the first place? ???
