After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Tried to lose weight with coffee?

edited December 2015 in Have your say
Hi all,

Just curious. As for someone who is trying to lose some weight, I've been wondering whether you can lose weight with coffee. Everywhere I've read, it says you can. What do you think? Should I believe?

Thanks to all

  • Hey mate, Caffeine is a dietetic but seriously... weightloss is as simple as energy in less than energy out.  Any other tips and tricks are simply that.  There is a lot of money spent and made on this topic and the morality of businesses in this sphere is often dubious.  Take green coffee for example.  It failed to have any of the benefits claimed when an independent study was conducted.
  • +100 to Brett! If you're feeling lethargic due to the diet, then coffee might make you feel a little better and improve adherence?
  • Thanks, I actually read that it releases some sort of cells into your brain and makes you want eat less. You want to say its not true?
  • Welcome Vyapada and agreed!  I've no doubt JJ that coffee affects us on a cognitive level but any reliance on it yo sate hunger through manipulation of the Nucleus Accumbens is not addressing the main issue of energy in verses energy out. I too have weight to lose and cholesterol to lower and an Endoctrinologist who will be on my case if I don't.  If there was an easy answer friends we'd be zillionaires!!
  • Eat broccoli my friend. And pair that with boiled chicken then hit the gym. Don't forget to carb load with brown rice before hand too so you can get through a workout. This was my staple when I gained a lean 9kg of mass 3 years ago. Don't be fooled by low carb diets, or no carb diets. You need a balanced diet and exercise. Energy in < energy out with some exercise. The more muscle mass you have the quicker your metabolism will be. Don't be fooled by low fat food. It's all a crock of shite. They are picked with sugar which essentially is energy. Everything get converted to KJ / calories / energy. 1 gram of carbs = 4calories 1 gram protein = 4 calories 1 gram fat = 8 calories. You need all so if you're calorie counting split it 40/40/20%
  • Brilliant stuff.  I was a fit and healthy 6'3 at 94 kg who was working a pretty good 3 day split.  I got sick and dropped to 78kg and was diagnosed with Addisons.  Two years on I'm now back to 90 but am carying more around the middle and less at the fringes. It's because I've not been exercising as much and that needs to change.
