After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Rumours?

Does anyone know any substantiation to the rumour that CocaCola may be about to buy Vittoria Coffee?  Apparently there was a report on that in a Melbourne paper this week.

  • A, there doesn't seem to be any announcements by Coca Cola on the ASX. I think they would want to bed down the acquisition of SPC Ardmona first. But you never know. P
  • do you know what paper it was in ADMIN?... find it hard to believe but i guess it makes sense... CCA must lose some sales during winter (particularly in southern states) selling coffee might be one way of picking up extra income.... i just wonder what steps they would take in restructuring the company!? john
  • Could perhaps be a Sydney based multi-national which is looking to off load local operations. JL
  • does that mean we can soon drink diet coffee?
  • James Welcome to the forum. What are you up to these days?? John Doyle
  • Hi All, Todays Australian Financial Review (Monday 18th April 2005) puts an end to rumours of Coke taking over Vittoria Coffee and Cantarella Bros. Either they didn't bid high enough or the other parties were not interested in selling. Either way it said that Coke was still on the look out for a Coffee related company. There was also an article covering Starbucks in Australia and how they have failed to meet there objectives to date in Australia. But they have no intention of leaving and are seeking ways to gain that market edge. Their aim was for 57 stores by this time but have only been able to open around 47. Some reasons they gave was that their initial shops were in EXTREMELY high rental areas, as thats how they work in the US. This caused low returns, not happy investers..... It also stated their product was not of a level that Australians were used to and that Aussies had more refined tastes than that of Americans. Even with stiff competition from Gloria Jeans (148 Stores) they are still keen to expand their business activities. A more accurate description can be found here http://www.aasca.com/public/news16.htm Hope this was of some interest :) Mimmo
