After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • Hello P, If you are talking about flavour essences used to give freshly roasted coffee the character of something else (eg like hazelnut or vanilla or irish cream etc), you will find them very difficult to obtain. In any case most professional roasters these days havent bothered with the stuff for years....too much trouble, mediocre results, little turnover etc. If you wish to flavour coffee with the character of something else, absolutely the best way to do so is to use the commonly available flavour syrups that you add to your cup of already brewed coffee.  They are relatively inexpensive, do a far better job of the flavouring, you can keep adding greater concentration until you have the character you desire, you can keep lots of different flavour syrups on hand and add "instantly" to your regular coffee whenever the whim strikes! Hope this has been of some help, but if I have misunderstood your request for info about "coffee oils to use in home roasting", please let us know. Regardz, FC.
  • Agreeing with FC here. In order to use those oils, you have to add the flavouring to the beans before they have fully cooled from roasting. Effectively you bake the beans. Much better off adding coffee syrups to the coffee while not affecting the beans. Hey FC, in regards to roasters not having used them in ages, I wish it were true. We have so many customers that say their local roasters give them irish cream or vannila latte beans. In fact we just recently aquired a cafe account who was using a blend with 10% vannilla in it.
  • Yuk! Must be a regional thing....havent seen flavoured beans around these parts for years...total waste of time when you can use the syrups and as a result have a great variety of flavours for the one coffee...uncomplicated, sensible... that might be too much to ask of some (roasters) I guess. Regardz, FC.
  • gloria jeans still do 'coffee' like that, don't they? like the chocolate mudslide coffee etc?
  • Do places like GJ's actually serve coffee flavoured coffee?
  • There was a shop in Newtown (Syd) that I used to buy beans from - they sold 'Caramel' beans that were just beautiful. Not particularly Carameley but sooo smooth. Cheers, Amy
