After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

A blend with Muscles... Ka-Pow!

This is now my 3rd time roasting this blend. PNG and MM were roasted together, 8 days prior to roasting the Colombian.
10% PNG Robusta (150g)
23% Indian Monsson Malabar (350g)
67% Colombian Organic Supremo (1000g)

Total batch is 1.5kg and is normally shared between me and a mate. He doesn't need this last batch as he is going O/S for 3 weeks so I am offering his share to other members to try.

My notes from other thread:
Chocolate and caramel with a puch but oh, so smooooooth  Thumbsup.gif definitely my best blend yet. Good with milk and surprisingly better as a long black. Awesome as an espresso...
Will call this one "KA-POW!" and will definitely keep working with these beans

SS is getting a 250g bag, any takers for the other 250g??

    This sounds great mate!  I won't put my hand up for a sample because I am overstocked at the moment but  :thumb:

    I think Muscles might be a man after my own espresso-based heart. Muscles - was this roasted about 10 days ago? It's still de-gassing quite massively! There's a dark, full-bodied flavour that I really appreciate. Quite smooth, but you can taste the edge of the robusta and the unmistakable developing MM. There's very little acidity or 'brightness' to it, which I like. I find way too many roasts too 'bright' from commercial roasters and it leads me to suspect a longer roast time 18mins + for this roast... All in all, it's my kind of espresso, but I think it's going to get better in the following week. It doesn't help that I'm working on an unfamiliar machine that doesn't yet give me the subtleties that I'm used to with the BZ09. I think perhaps some of the edge that I'm attributing to robusta might be the slightly-too-high temp of this machine. My wife wasn't sure about it in milk - she asked if it was recently roasted right off the bat. Thanks for the treat Muscles, I'll keep you up to date with how it progresses.

    I'm going to wait a couple more days - will crack it on Saturday when I have time to savour the tastes rather than just swill it down before heading to work.

    Thanks for the feedback so far, I am keen to see how it develops for you all. The MM and Robusta were roasted together 7th April so 12 days ago. I let them run about 20 seconds into rolling 2nd crack and stopped the roast at 17mins flat. The Colombian was roasted 14th April so 5 days ago. It got away from me at the end and was pulled 35 seconds into 2nd at a total of 19 mins. Distractions with the bub didn't help :( I noticed some blow-outs in the colombian beans just as I was mixing them and bagging them up for you all and was a bit gutted. I tried my first shot from the same batch today and agree it still has degassing to do...

    Just cracked this morning. Managed to nail the grind first go, so didn't waste any. Had in milk, double shot latte. Is like getting smacked in the jaw. Tasty, well balanced. Still a touch too fresh for my liking. The robusta shines through in a great way that doesn't overpower. Slight earthiness. Nose is blocked this morning, so hard to give much more feedback than that. Will get feedback from the wife later on.

    Right so after seeing how Muscles has his BDB set up for this blend I thought I would try the same and wow talk about chocolate in a latte, very very chocolately.  I am definitely getting a hit of something else, I'm guessing it might be the MM? very smooth and a lingering taste. I did try it as an espresso but I must be doing something wrong, I'm not a huge espresso person though, it was drinkable, well I got through 3/4 of it anyway.

    SS: did emulating the same settings on the BDB make a big difference or only minor and what settings did you try prior? Sorry you haven't found the oomph in the blend but glad to hear you like it :)

    The difference in settings made a HUGE difference, sure there was a little bit of a chocolate taste, I say 'little' now as I have tasted the difference.  The taste is very rich now. My settings before were, 92 degrees, 60% and 7.

    I found the Ka-Pow. It came fairly late in piece, in the last three shots brewed about three days ago (sorry, absolutely slammed at the moment, no time for anything). It meant a fairly fine grind (which I need on the BZ99 anyway, pressure's too high) and a good flush to get the temp down. A ristretto pour worked best. Full mouthfeel, strong rich 'dark' flavours and no hint of the wet dog flavour that can permeate an MM infused brew. All in all, exactly the kind of espresso I like. And not at all like my most recent experiment which is not great as espresso but my wife is loving in milk.
