Help getting a coffee machine from Devonport (TAS) to Sydney

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
Hey everyone,

Just a random thought. I'm bidding on a ~45kg coffee machine which I need to (if I win) get from Devonport, Tasmania to Sydney. I'm wondering if by any chance there are people who can help it on a journey.

I'd see the journey as being

Devonport, TAS > car ferry > Melbourne, VIC
Melbourne, VIC > road > Sydney, NSW

I'd be very happy to contribute all the $ I'd save by not sending it via carrier to each individual's beer fund!

thanks,

John.

  • if the seller, or a helpful crema  member is willing to crate it and take to freight depot, e-go may be the best option. depot to depot is way cheaper than door to door and less truck transitions so lower risk of damage

That's good information!  Sadly I cannot help as part of this journey.
  • Good news: got the machine! Bad news: seller doesn't want to be helpful. :)If there's anyone in or near Devonport who' be happy to go by and inspect the machine and see it crated (*and/or off to depot) that'd be awesome. eBay seller suddenly not accepting paypal, so I'd have limited recourse if the machine performs a disappearing act.
  • I've never used them but you could try a quote from pack and send if no members live nearby.
  • Firstly, ring Ebay and make a formal complaint, he HAS to accept Paypal, Paymate or a credit card in the name of his online store (not personal). Ebay will force him to accept or cancel his account. If you get stuck, as I said in chat, you can bring it up on my TNT account.
  • Do you have any mates from AASCA in Tasmania I have used pack and send on the buyers request when sending my water filter system to SA They really pack or overpac well from what I saw They have a special service for ebay -- http://www.packsend.com.au/ KK
  • I've used Pack and Send.  While comparatively expensive, the peace of mind and ease of the transaction was worth it!
  • Well CH, did you win that single group Z9 ?   I thought you were overwhelmed with the one you already had, so to take on another is brave.. ..or mad  >:D ..or greedy  :thumb: ..or an addiction
  • This machine is (apparently) in working condition, unlike the garaged one ;).
  • Did you ring Pack & Send in Hobart to ask about options  A phone call is the least expensive part of the exercise
  • Rang P&S - $449 seemed a little steep but will call them again tomorrow. e-go.com.au is 'best' at around half that, but service will struggle. After a few hairy moments with the seller, I think we're seeing eye to eye and I'm looking forward to a working machine. It does have the original mercury pressure switches though, so might need a little extra care - personally I'd take them out prior to shipping, but hopefully the crate won't be asked onto a plane! Also called Hunter Express, but got placed in a 1hr queue. :)
  • Send me the details of the size and weight plus addresses both ends and I will check on my TNT business account and see what the cost would be.
  • Its a real shame that they stopped the Sydney -Hobart ferry service  :tearhair:   It would have made a fun week end trip. :(
