After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • He he he.... I have visions of a certain courier driver merrily grinding away at his coffee all weekend....

Way to go C-man..... Did you get the accessory so you can grind straight into the portafilter? ???
they said  to use the tumble  it comes with, I only saw a  holder for  the  portafilter that I don't need because I always use  a nakid They recommended the funnel wipers so I  got them.
  • door bell is fixed and more beans ordered will let you know.
  • Awesome C-man Congrats and welcome to the large conical club. Ive been pondering the switch to the HG1 from the Kony but not decided yet
  • Thanks Ronin paying for it was painful lets hope it was worth it.
  • I'm still waiting for my message to say it's arrived C-Man?  Or are you keeping your new toy all to yourself! ;)
  • It came Monday almost a week ago, Still trying to get a decent shot out of it. It just sprays everywhere no matter what I do and I get water in the shots I guess the burrs need to season in. I keep grinding more and more older beans to season it, seems to take forever. I have read that the TIN coated burrs take time.
  • Very interesting, i had no such problems with mine with the original burrs. Are you grinding direct into the PF or do you have the sexy tumbler gadget?
  • Are you getting your dose right?  What does the grind feel like?  Same as you usual grind?  Happy to visit if you want.  Let me know when you have time.
  • I am grinding onto the thing it came with, then lifting the plug thing into the portafilter as per instructions. Dose and grind does not seem to matter, I am getting tiny sprayers through the naked no matter how much I stir the grinds. the grind looks nice and fluffy but not as good as the Pharos OG brought over. It really makes a mess. I ground the same beans with the Rosco just to test and it was much better. Come by anytime Micheal.
  • Try different beans mate!
  • It is the grinder or the grinder settings Brett I tried same beans/dose with my little Rosco grinder and it was 4 times better also tried many different beans too. I am not getting much crema that lasts either. I am pretty sure it is the TIN burrs that take time to season in, this is what I have read anyway but I will still play around with grind and dose just in case.

What is meant by "season in"  ?? What are you hoping grinding more beans through will do to those burrs ? TiN coating is incredibly wear resistant, so no amount of beans  will even take the shine off them ! The most you can hope for is a coating of coffee oils ...which i am not sure is a good thing ?

  • crazy as it sounds I might have to do it.
  • What a lot of stuffing about that is C-Man. Any new piece of equipment takes time to get to grips with, some more than others.  Maybe you could ask some of the HG-One owners for their experience/tips and tricks?  I know Galumy is away on holiday at the moment Galumay but he might be able to PM you back. Are the shots gushers (ie like 60ml in 10secs) or are you just getting spray with a nakid?
  • the shots are normal but with some sprayers, and sometimes the stream drops blobs,  it is better now with finer grind and lower dose the crema goes away quickly and the shots do not taste as good as the Rosco using same dose/beans ect.

It's not going to taste the same is it!  That's why you just spent 1k on a grinder?  :-X It think more than anything it comes down to playing with it.  Didn't you just lower your pstat too?  I'm sure it will all work out in the end.  Remember when you got your machine and it took time to get to grips with it.  patience. :) I would still ask other HG-One owners for advice though.  I think there are a few members with them.
  • I understand it is not going to taste the same, but it should taste at least as good,  not worse? If I use the same beans/dose but grind with the Rosco I get thick syrupy extraction with lots of crema and a better taste. so it can only be the grinder or the grind setting,  I will play more with grind settings. I have written to Craig at HG one for any tips and advice.
  • reply from HG one Hi Craig, Thank you for your email and glad to hear the grinder made it to you safe and sound. What you're experiencing sounds like par for the course, and we have customers who have been where you are right now. We've noticed over the course of testing scores of burr sets, that some break in faster than others. Eventually, we see the same performance out of all of them after bedding in. Mazzer's QC is rigorous and so far we haven't had any issues with any burrs in terms of quality of coffee being produced. Common issues that we've heard about from our customers, and we have experienced directly, are early blonding, gysers or micro spurting, and fast extractions. These symptoms go away after breaking in. To note, these same issues occur on Mazzer's Robur grinders as well, and are not exclusive to our machine. That being said, we do stress that re-distribution or stirring of the grounds is an absolute necessity in order to get the best results in the cup. We have a webpage that covers this in detail that might be worth reading, if you haven't already done so. Also we
  • What a great reply from your supplier.  Reassuring and not denigrating.  I reckon Lacheim's advice is root on too!!
  • Did you get the Robur burrs or the Kony burrs? I might be able to find some old burrs to try instead, no promises tho
  • I am not sure, just says 83mm TIN Mazzer burrs I am not worried, I will just do some more grinding to help  season it in. I am sure it will be worth it in the  end.
  • Just keep crankin' it C-man... A crankin we will go... A crankin we will go... Hi Ho the derio... A crankin we will go.... Trust you to get the tough ass burrs...
  • you crank, I'm too HOT!
  • Well we already have an Ol Grumpy... Maybe you should change yours to Ol Cranky.....
  • Just call me Crank for short
  • Yeah that works well C-man = Crank Man Was it Quasimodo who coined the phrase, "I'ts What I Doooo!"
  • If it's any consolation whatsoever, I had exactly the same issues as you, albeit on a smaller scale with the Pharos, It was only 3-4 kilos of splutter before things settled down and all was well in the morning brew routine again...
