After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Looks like Mackay or Yeppoon is going to get hammered with predicted cat 4 in less than 6 hrs

  • Yep and we get the tail end of it, probably Cat 1 > Tropical Low.  Lots of rain coming our way for sure. Feel for all the people up north.  I hope they are using the time to prepare and stay safe! On a side note I haven't seen any cyclone warning on the TV yet!  A bit like this Used to get them in Mount Isa, but nothing down here.  Seem the media are the only sources of news, and they are having a full length special tomorrow!  They are loving it like usual!  ::)
  • Hopefully everyone's ok up north.  Looks like a bit of mess to clear up but no fatalities!  Phew.
  • Growing up in the North I've sat through a few of these. The big difference from when I was a kid is the way it's reported.  Words like Bomb and Expolded were never used by the media when I was a kid.  Seems in their desperation to sell copy they've got to sensationalise even the weather.  Kids having the day home from school in Brisbane because of a cyclone in Yeppon is crazy but that's exactly what has happened.  Why can't media outlets cut the sensational drivel and do something useful like send the reporters North to clean up the mess!!  Also, they could arrange to help out the poor beggars who are today's headline and tomorrow's forgotten battlers??  Seems like we report on the news to sate our schadenfreude rather than direct our sympathies and kindness!
  • I agree BH.  I did keep my youngest home on Friday, but that's due to the flooding between his school and our home, and sure enough, the roads were cut! :)  The eldest child walked to school with me, while everyone else drove! lol. The media were right on to this one, even advertising a special the next day to tell us all about the destruction!  :tearhair:  Lets home the use their skills to some good use to get the people some help up there.  They are going to need tradies by the bus load to get their life back to normal.
  • the only good thing is the surf is up
  • Just a question, why is everyone pronouncing it 'Marsha' when it's clearly spelt 'Marcia'? Shouldn't it be pronounced 'mar-see-ah'?

Maybe you should ask your new premier Ms Palachook, er, shay, seems even she is unsure. ;D

Totally agree mate.  I had this debate with the Mrs last night.  She says it's the way Aussies pronounce it, Marsha.  Personally I think that's a load of old rubbish.  It's mar-see-ah as you pronounced it as far as I'm concerned. :)

So, on that theory then , Patricia would be pronounced Pa-tris-see-ah    :stir Gotta love this "English" language eh?
