New Turbo Oven Suggestions

Well it's that time again.  My turbo oven power cord is looking a bit dangerous so I think it's time to say bye bye.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to buy a good quality halogen (I like the light) TO that pumps out enough heat for the big roasts?

    I had one of the Kmart ones: $39.  It lasted 13 months before becoming noticeably less hot despite my cleaning and de-chaffing.

    I have a feeling mine is going the same way really.  600gm roasts have been getting longer and longer despite a pre-heat :(

    My Coretto has been churning out weekly 750 gram batches for 5 years with no sign of slowing down. The DMM failed a few months ago, inconvenient, $80 and a few days, I was up and running again. Did I mention I love my Coretto.

    Thanks KK, PM replied.  I ordered one. I had visions of Mark (AM) telling me off the other day when I saw the insulation had come away at the plug!  Best to be on the safe side! I suggest you post it up, the free shipping was a great offer! :)

Symptoms can include: dizziness. vertigo. loss of balance. nausea and vomiting. tinnitus (ringing or buzzing in your ear) loss of hearing in the high-frequency rangein one ear. difficulty focusing eyes.

    Yep, that's the one.  Bloody aweful at first especially with Addisons as an underlying condition.  I'm feeling much better now and can even sleep in any position I choose... I just have to be a bit careful with how fast I turn my head.  I got the virus from my 3yo who got it from a friend of ours who is a nurse.  Didn't affect her so badly (week or so off colour and a but hung-over like):  She's young and fit!! Didn't affect him so badly: he's very young and subscribes to the 'no brain no pain' organisation... despite initial signs of prodigious intelligence.... Go figure. Me, it hit me moderately... the lovely doctor gave me a nice big course of stemetal and with doubled meds I fared better than the many others who also presented at the local GP! Bloody aweful sickness, avoid it if you can!  Saved a fortune on grog for a post new-years party and still experienced the after-effects ;) I reckon the DD looks the same as the Kmart versions. Having said that, free delivery for folk who don't live 900 metres from Kmart makes it a good option!

    Pleased to hear your on the mend Brett, bad luck it struck over the Christmas new year period, guess any time would be a bugger but over the holiday period even more so. Was unaware of the Addisons, is it under control?

    Looks the same as my Homeart one it's replacing too.  Saves fighting fold in the shop and carting a big box home with the kiddies in toe at least.  I haven't seem them this cheap for a while though, and the TO isn't listed on Homeart's website.

    Thaks guys for the concern.  Agree completely L... Shops and kids are not fun at the moment with the 'back-to-school' crowds. Hey DB, my Addisons was diagnosed 2 and a bit years ago and is largey under control.  I had a crisis brought on by an acute bout of gastro last year but I'm trying to take take care of myself and trying to avoid as many of the dreaded lurgies as possible... With young kids... And working in a school environment... Lol

    Well at 8.15am today my TO arrived. :) Not a bad order process!  Ordered Friday, Despatched Monday, Arrived Wednesday am :) The TO looks exactly like the one it replaces, just a different brand.  I might also modify the old guard and see if that improves the roast times at all.

    Beans required for next week so I took the plunge with the new TO.  Wow! What an improvement over the old one!  I ran the KKTO for around 30 minutes with a TO on full to get rid of any smells.  Loaded the beans, 600gm of Honduras COE, and FC around the 12 minutes mark (I use the TO timer), lowered the temp to 220 and coasted it along and pulled at 15/16mins before 2C.  Roast turned out well so I'm a happy bunny.

    The new Turbo Oven is fantastic.  I'm thinking I might try my first ever 800gm roast to see how it goes.  It's certainly got a lot more heat and that's with the stock guard on it! :)  Nice find KK!

    My new TO is also working well but I have only done about 8 roasts on it so far The fan guard has been modified with a few selective holes for better large batch performance

    KK, did you angle the fan blades as well? I found the more efficient air flow together with the modified guard (i removed mine altogether) should result in a great cup.

    I did a 700gm roast without any dramas.  I think a 800-900gm roast wouldn't be a problem with this new TO.  It's a amazing the different between TOs.  I've had two before this one and the performance has always been average with bigger roasts.  Now it's kicking along nicely.

    No I have not touched the fan blades Gary I may try one large hole on the spare fan guard as a comparison

    Yep some are better than others but I have had luck on all the units I have purchased KK

    As you all know I have a heavily modded KKTO. Reporting just completed 1120grm roast to 226deg in 19 min.Coped very well average heat rise 10-12 degC  Finished roast looks as good as any roast I have done. Beans were Brendans PNG Sigri Peaberry
