After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Hey all of you over there in melborne, I was watching Getaway this evening and Nick Giannopoulos took the crew around his favourite Cafes' and interviewed a few people including apparently the best Barista in Australia. He also went to a place called "Coffea" where they roast the bean right there in front of you.

Just wondering if any of you people were on there :)

    Hi OE, he wouldn't give away any of his secrets but I think he most probably recalibrates his grinder by checking  a personal barometer every 3 minutes, and he has an electronic scale that reads to an accuracy of one gram attached to his hand tamper. The hand tamper of course has been expertly chiselled from a tusk of the very finest ivory, to  cunningly fit into the exact shape of his right hand. It wont work for anyone else. Oh I almost forgot, he wasn't allowed to get on the machine until after he'd finished an eight year apprenticeship ( two years more than anyone else of course), and two years after that he went to Rome to complete a one year postgraduate degree in Baristology. In the finest Italian tradition, he is now referred to as... "Dottore Barista"... if you please. It's a shame you didnt see the show really. Fresh Coffee

    Wow :o :o :o :o :o where can i get a tamper like that.Hey i got one of those baristology certificate in a box of barista morning munchies........guess i will have to take it of my wall now since someone else has one :'( :'( see ya OE :P

    Yeah I remember that episode and this great Barista was "spooning" the froth into the cup AND the expresso was running like a tap...yuke. Just another dumb, get a life, trash programme.
