After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Regional coffee distribution
hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster! Let me firstly say that i love the site, and it's always very informative.
I have been working for a prominent coffee wholesaler for the past 4.5 years. Whilst i'm not a qualified electrician, i have a fair range of knowledge when it comes to the repair of machines/grinders, as well as the installation of.
I also train new customers - whilst not having trainer quals - in how to operate their equipment.
Basically, the company is set up so that im stuck what i am doing. There is no room to advance. And when you've been earning between 29000-32000 dollars for the past 5 years, you start to ask yourself alot of questions.
Anyways, the areas in which i am very familiar with, cover roughly a 400km radius. Alot of area, but also alot of business. The company that i am with would have roughly 50% of the business in these areas. Our main selling point being our ability to service consistantly.
I love the job (travelling, meeting ppl etc) and i love my coffee, but the people that run the business are absolutely clueless at times. I feel that with the knowledge i have gained, i could start up my own wholesale business.
I have never started my own business before, so i will definately consult my accountant. Not too sure though if i will need the backing of a major coffee supplier - hesistant to look at a boutique roaster because i need to rely on supply to customers.
Not all potential customers have their own machines. Will i need major backing for this also.
Basically, i know what i want to do, i just dont know how i'm gonna go about it. If anyone has any advice, please let me know.
Thanks all
