After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

I'm in love.

Bought myself a new toy last week, 1973 Triumph Tiger 750, it was on the bucket list  ;D and has given me a new lease on life.

My life is one big weekend, retired 3 years ago. ;D I've been into Hi Fi since the late 60's, have a pretty fair set-up, good collection of vinyl and a Rotel direct drive TT with a SME V15 type 3 arm to play them on, amp and CD player are reasonable quality modern SS stuff, my poor old early 70's US made Marantz amp has been retired the electronics are well past their use by date, have a real nice pair of VAF speakers I bought just after I retired, the system works well and more importantly sounds very nice to my aging ears. Noticed the sound system thread over there but for some reason did not feel inclined to join in. ;)
  • Its funny all my life I have built or made things as good or better than off the shelf products I build my own speakers (now only do full range drivers) Its the only way to get a 50K sound for a few thousand Currently building the last 2 cabinets out of 5 I had a tube amp built to my specs & a tube DAC on its way soon If you lived in Brisbane you could come over for a listen & a coffee KK

Maybe I could ride the Triumph over one afternoon ;) Seriously though, I do quite a bit of woodwork/carpentry but never had the desire to build a set of speakers, there's a lot of snake oil written about speaker design, all pretty basic stuff, a little like the hocus pocus that goes on about tampers.
  • used to have a bike when I was a student and must admit, have been thinking along these lines myself, although I'd probably have to pay out to get something newer, as I'm no techie... have completely lost touch with the different brands/models... sigh!

Was in Peter Stevens motor cycles in Franklin St yesterday Admin, if your into nice bikes you need to check out the new Triumph range, they will knock your eyes out and as far as I'm concerned pretty well priced. ;)
  • BTW guys, cracked a hundred posts yesterday, I'm now a senior member, I'm impressed. ;D

As an after thought, the Tiger is a classic, could have bought a current model for what I paid for it, always wanted an early model Triumph, old guy old bike. ;)

Whacha mean getting? I'm already there. ;)
  • Took the Tiger in for a health check last Monday, mostly fine but the mechanic tells me the carby is stuffed, waiting around for a new one is killing me, hopefully around the middle of next week. :'(
