Hi guys - these days, all chat rooms get a huge amount of spam new membership requests; we welcome new members, but sometimes it's hard to pick the real new member usernames from the spam ones and occasionally we can drop a genuine one off by mistake.

It would help if you could include a 'coffee-related' work in your username as that helps us tell the genuine ones from the fake ones, and if anyone's registration hasn't come through in 24 hrs [& you think you may have been mistakenly dropped] please don't hesitate to email on: [email protected].

While I am no expert on SMF I use a process on some Yahoo groups I run that all first postings are moderated to prove their intent or spammer possibility. The groups I own still need to be applied for initially so we eliminate some here and the mod thing gets the rest to 99% removal. Not sure but this might help set it up here, basically set up a super newbies group for less than X postings to be moderated then into the unmoderated group. http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=364429.0

thanks KK & Bf - just for the benefit of those who aren't involved with other forums, this is a selection of the new member applications we got overnight: airblue124, VirginGirl, milkeeee26, pobiossictels, Scott9690, [email protected], alexpa1968, tobarandres01, Tracee3216 now VirginGirl is presumably a link to a pornsite, and pobiossictels is probably one of those pesky russian spammers [as is tobarandres01] but some of them you can't be too sure - eg Scott 9690? Don't want to delete him, as he may be genuine, as could GlennSchaeferkr [weird name, but may be a foreigner]. Lot's of fun!! A 8)

Had to love the random golf spam at least it wasn't porn I guess. So long as most of the spam gets cleaned up and members removed, as the traffic here is currently fairly light most of us won't be to worried until an improved fix is found.
