Minnor III - No Water Mod needed

One of the issues with many of these prosumer machines is that the power to the machine is via a switch under the water tank.

No warning and in teh middle of a shot ... DEAD  ::) :o

Now there is usually a bit in mine and as per another poster some where, one can just push the tank down and finish the shot.

Simple but not elegant.  Got hold of some water level sensors and it warns when LOW or HI.  Stops from over filling, but is a separate part and run from button batteries.

Before I go an ask/annoy the Brewtius foke, has any one here performed a mod that they are happy with ?

G'day Bliss, I used to have a Giotto which had the same set up, a low water cut out, but no low water warning. I toyed with the idea of making a low water warning by using a float system. The idea was to have a small rare earth magnet encased in some foam, inside a large tube vertically inside the water tank. The 'sensing' was to be done by a reed switch which was mounted outside the tank, along with a small buzzer. This was all powered by a small transformer from the power supply of the machine. I never actually got around to putting it together, but I've still got the parts and the crazy idea in my head. PM me if you want the bits. Steve.

Another method that I was toying with was a purely mechanical one, using a float and a pivot of some sort. Using a float on a rod that when the water level gets to your pre-set level, it lifts the other side of the pivot up. Think of a see saw with the rod attached to the end that's sitting up in the air. When the level gets low, the high end of the see saw drops, pushing the low end up. Just another (wacky) thought.

Go analogue AM Use a fishing float weighted at the bottom Drill a hole in the door/cover panel of your water reservoir and it will go down to your pre determined level KK

I used to fish in this fashion with a float for Black Bream and Mullet That's where I got the idea from Its so simple and it will work Its also easy to DIY a float You will need a 30 or 40mm X 10mm dia piece of cork for better floatation as you want it to float I chop stick or a bamboo skewer a little weight And the colour you want to paint it, for this you use nail polish Its easy I have done it many times for fishing ect KK

With all this talk of water cutouts on high end machines...and a difference of usually around $1k to go to a rotary pump and plumbed in solution, I'm amazed more people don't make their own float valve filled plumbed in machines (a-la toilet cisterns).

Thats what I did I Went to a plumbed machine but I have ample bench space and I don't rent Renting and bench space are the biggest obstacles KK

Im still renting and there's no bench space in the kitchen for my coffee machine but thankfully there is a second kitchen attached to the house compete with original seventies bench space and shelving - and I've claimed this space as my own 'cafe' at home compete with green bean storage etc! And whilst my machine could be plumbed I just keep a Brita water filter jug near by and keep topping the resoiver up as necessary - this has become so second nature i don't even think about it any more it's just a usual part of my coffee routine ... Now if I could just get rid of the plague of cockroaches that reside in the machine!
