After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Win a Kite

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
Hope this isn't out of order to put here. Just because I am cold bored etc see if you really are that good or are just lucky.

Pick which of the 3 offerings is the Central American and then see if you can pick the country. one entry per person and the first correct is the winner. Either PM if your shy or post your answer/guess here.

Prize is a Single String Kite from made in my little shop and is just because :)

Comp ends at 5pm tomorrow (Friday)

  • Even though its hard to tell from the picture Only because I can see it best My vote goes to #2 - Guatamala P.S. I already have a Kite I still also make my own out of paper & haven't forgotten how to since I was a kid KK
  • Depending on where you draw the central American boundaries only 7 or 8 countries to pick from and a some don't really grow much in the way of coffee  ;)

There are 7 countries in the central American area Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. KK
  • better odds than the lottery then  ;)

Mmmm. Love that blend. Really should order some more from mycuppa sometime (such damned good pricing).

Quite right one of them is in fact Suuweet from mycuppa but is it number 1 2 or 3 will be revealed tomorrow. Jeff (formerly ccc2) should be along when Admin gets back from O/S to catch up with the memberships. It's a great allrounder for milk coffees (my shop blend). And as we have an answer for 1,2 & 3 at least one of you is in the running for the win pending confirmation of country if you or someone else got it right ;D
  • My guess is:- No. 1 and it looks like Herbatzu to me (Costa Rican) - only because it's one of my favourites and I've roasted about 10kg of it over time... :)  But it really is just a guess. My son made a kite at Kinder/Prep last week - times are tough at his school, they used platic shopping bags, sticks and string! Apparently it flew though when Pete took them out to the park on the weekend, although definitely not very high up!  :D Cheers Di
  • hi mate - do you ship to Seattle [just kidding]... fyi, this sort of thing is perfectly fine for Off-topic - what a great idea!!

Yep I can ship anywhere shipped a large kite to Texas last year and kites to Ireland last month. Still no exact winner yet but someone has picked which one and someone has picked the country. If no one gets it ptize is going to the person that picked the bean first. :)
  • After a quick check of FB, Twitter and entries here No one got it 100% correct ...... Drum roll please Number 1 is some Suuweet Blend Number 2 is a PNG S/O from CS Number 3 is the Central and as AM made his educated guess of is from Gloria Jeans (blame the slight oil sheen as a bit of a give away) and is in fact from Nicaragua. So as it is my comp I declare the closest and also the earliest to declare number of the S/O AM is the winner. PM me your address and I will send you a 4WD glove box compatible kite I make  :) Out of interest GJ's call this a 'medium roast' it is still darker and more oily than any recent beans I have had commercially or roasted myself but if you were caught short without beans in the cupboard this ones is not to bad at all for Espresso based milk drinks (to acidic for espresso). I was really a huge fan of African beans but of recent times I have been finding a love for centrals, if you haven't yet give them a go.
  • Hey Bf - once again thanks very much for this - has been a fantastic thread... fyi, the rest of the discussion was worthy of its own thread, so have split this & moved to 'Home roasting' board; hope that makes sense! A
  • If you need a bigger kite for sinkers and bait I know a shop  ;) Sewing on these ones was most likely done by my part time Barista/Sewer and now full time Mum Di in her spare time. It varies as to who does the sewing depending on my time but during winter me to save a few $$.
