After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

My new M7D

edited January 1970 in Grinders
Aahh, that cursed disease 'upgradeitis' has struck again  :D.
I've just landed myself a Macap M7D which arrived today  :).

Here's a pic next to my Breville smart and M4.

It doesn't seem so big until,

The giant hopper goes on :o  ;D

I haven't had a chance to play yet, that will have to wait until next week, unfortunately.
All the best,
Steve.

  • So which one is on the chopping block, surely you wont be allowed to keep all three!! Brett
  • Just cut into the kitchen cupboards will be easiest  ;D I suspect you may just have ended grinder upgraditis. When you get around to it i would be interested to know what the grind retention is like up the chute (total grams) if possible. Just a little jealous too  :)

As understanding as Mrs Lovey is  8) the M4 will be up for grabs. Once the bub is onto solid foods and Mrs Lovey is off the decaf, then the Brev may have to go as well. I

Gra, I got to look at one of those covered flick switches...   As for the Jam jar / SS funnel / lid from a cocktail shaker...  I reckon they add a touch of Home style class and do a dammed good job as well. Ya set-up is like ya garage... Too Clean  ::) ;D ;)
Did you pick one up! nice bit of bling you want to get 4 off those's chrome dome nut covers for the four bolts on the front panel I think they pinched my idea by the looks of the new Model.. The funnel and cocktail shaker is defiantly the way to go if you single dose.. As for too clean next time you drop in for a coffee I will through some grinds on the floor to make it looked more like it dose after a session

Yep, sold the DCM and got a Minore III...   Wooden handles and Knobs and now to get some nut covers as the plain bolts look a bit  "Cheep". Have been asked to make a Wooden group or two as gifts / presentations ......   So while it is all fun... I will keep at it.. PS. Have a project soon.... Not A lever but better than nothing....
I have been keeping watch on your progress on the handle and taps great stuff really dressers up the machine. Look forward to the new project don't forget the pics :D I have gone and dun it again when I said I wouldn't cant help my self had a few extra dollars that just burnt a hole in my pocket ::) ;D I won't say what till it arrives and is setup... :-X :-X Gra..

They are ss jam funnels you should be able to pick up in any kitchen shop then modified to suite your grinder type.. Finding a lid to fit is the hard part :D Cheers Gra.
  • On the funnel Gra, what size is the throat of your grinder? What sort of mods did you need to make it fit? Thanks, Steve.
  • Steve what's the grind retention like in the M7D?  How much do you grind through to get out the stale grinds...a single basket or double basket's worth of beans?  Less? More? Sniff
  • G'day Sniff, and sorry about the delay in replying to you Beanflying (you asked me this a few weeks ago), I wasn't ignoring you  ;), just been busy with work and the kids. I haven't done a lot of measuring re the grind retention, and I don't have a hopper lid that fits anymore, so I can't use it as a 'pump' to help flush out the extra grinds. Having said that, I had to remove the top burr and clean out the burr housing yesterday and there was a heap of ground coffee in there. I'd estimate about 14g, after about 2-3 weeks worth of grinding. This morning I put two scoops in to the empty grinder (about 16-17g) and I got just under 15g out, so there doesn't appear to be a great deal of retention per shot, but it seems to build up after a while. I was fairly slack with my cleaning routine until now  :-[. I haven't  used a vac on it yet, just using the 'continuous dose' to pulse out ground coffee at the end of the day. All the best, Steve.

The Eureka has a 52mm throat I used a 50mm ss sleeve and velcro to make the fit the jam funnel 58mm od.... Cheers Gra..
