After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

a blend question

edited January 1970 in Roasted Beans or Blends
probably in the wrong section i am good at that .
just would like a starting point . i like MM but find it leaves the mouth dry and i like ceja de selva and i find it very subtle . has a blend of the 2 been tried or would the MM just over power the de selva , or what would be a good starting point ratio of the 2 in a blend , ie 20/80.........30/70    just like to know if anyone has already done a blend of these 2 ???.could save me spoiling a heap of beans .

  • I always start blends at 50/50 and adjust from there KK
  • Hi Johno. You may find that a good Sumatran could help bring some "juice" and mouthfeel/viscosity back and why not extend it to 3 beans. Use MM sparingly - in fact you may be better served by roasting the MM separately and performing post-blending by staggering the rest time of the MM (generally benefits from a few extra days). Try KK's ratio, or start lower at 25% and build up according to your taste Ciao Jeff
  • ok ta , i already have the MM roasted it was done about a week ago so by the time i roast and rest the other to go with it  it should be about right. johno
  • As Jeff mentioned post blend 1 week later than the other beans are roasted. Out of interest if you are tempted to play with Robusta (there is nothing wrong with a good robusta in spite of what you may have heard) 2 weeks later works for me but only 5-15% unless you want to mess with your tastebuds for the entire day  ;)
