After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
I've been trying to get these beans working and it just isn't happening. Even on my finest setting I get a super-fast and gloppy Crema with near immediate blonding. As AM would say tho - 2 + 2 = 5. The taste is actually quite pleasant, even at the 3/4 long volume the shots inevitably pour at. It's just not a strong flavour. I still wouldn't bother with them again - And I'm much less critical of a local cafe using their beans that has a terrible pour. Maybe it's not them, but the beans. Still, they should know better.
Nope, not when I've got one of my own roasts that's just hitting it's good timeframe. Just poured an incredible double ristretto, one of the best I've ever done. When I can do that, why bother with anything less than awesome (from pro roasters or my own humble efforts)?
Zambia Terranova Estate AA http://www.beangreen.com.au/product-info.php?pid189.html Roasted to the very first sound of second crack. 6 days post roast: Dark chocolate (the type with no milk in it) and big fat berry fruit aussie shiraz. Bloody beautiful.
I have mixed at approx 60/40 % Cuba Altura day old post roast And PNG Waghi at approx 8 days post roast Many chocolate notes with a dry mouth feeling at the end of the cup KK
Yemen Bani Ismaili. About 6 days post roast. Flavour bomb :thumb: fruits, nice sweetness and some spicey chocolatey notes. Must go back and dial the grinder in properly for the next one, much finer still and drop the dose time. First shot was a sink, second a drinker but just 20 seconds, 3rd ....

Drinks nicely BF, choc shines through at the end but stupid amounts of crema came through - more than MM ??? Guji:Blue Tak blend tames the fruits but comes through nicely with the earthiness of indo beans. Wife extremely impressed as she was not a big fan of guji as a SO. Might become a household blend. Tanzania Clouds of August, very tame in milk, mild fruits..... Need to do a few more roasts on this one but no massive wow factor for me yet.
Yemen BI, just on a week old now and starting to improve nicely smoother than when I first cracked the bag Still 500g or so left so I will ration it out for the next week and see how it goes. On the first of the big batches of PNG for the rest of the day.
Just starting my 25% MM/35% PNG/40% Brazil blend. Coming along nicely at 9days post roast. The MM really kicks off and you get a nice caffeine hit from this one!
Cracked the bag of Ministry Grounds Pre Blend I roasted last Saturday. Cuts well through milk and if you want to cheat a little and can't or don't want to think to much about blending your own then this ones well worth a go :thumb: I will have a proper tasting session on a clean palette spicy foods and tasting coffee don't work to well but off to a good start.
55% 45% blend Java ijen sun dried and tirgacheffe special prep. roasted 6 days ago. medium/light roast. first shot of the bag. nice tight shot, be interesting to see how this one develops as it ages and I tinker with grind and dose.
Drinking a home roast of La Pira Geisha I got from from Ministry Grounds a few weeks ago :thumb: Roasted about a minute after FC sweet, juicy and not to acidic with a slight tannin finish.
Tanzania Blackburn Estate - Clouds of August. I roasted it Thur night gone, cupped it Friday arvo, it had some apple and orange zest, low acidity, well balanced. Brewed an aeropress of it yesterday, apples, orange, cocoa. Quite nice! I also brewed my first aeropress iced-coffee with some Tanzania Uru Estate. Not bad, but I need to work on it. It wasn't "amazing".
Thanks BL. Most Sumatrans are blended at origin, sourced from small farmers who drive into the Co-Ops with their utes and poly tarps full of freshly processed greens. RFA Mandhelings are quite rare to come by and this one has full traceability to the farm. Quite a nice bean that improves around day 10 - 14. For the other folks - BL watched this one being roasted (he was perving at Joper-porn) - it was taken a little dark and into SC given the beans were quite new and high in moisture.
Brazil opus 1 low caffeine from bean green. espresso roast, short short black. just coming good - roasted 31/8. Brazilians will never be my favourite, but this is perfectly nice.
aeropress kimmel peaberry, filter roasted 12 days ago. first crack plus 5 degrees (fc plus one min) Interesting. Pleasant enough but I think this bean deserves a darker roast. Chocolate just coming through, but the acidity didn't play well with it. I prefer the filter roast tanza tec I had yesterday (marmalade, plenty of acid bite) but daughter hated that one.
The blend I roasted on the 3rd of September is currently at its peak The blend was roasted all together 150 gr of Yemen Bani 300 gr of Ethiopian Gambala Naturals 500 gr Columbian Andes Santa Rita It's absolutely wonderfully gorgeous to drink It goes down so well that you forget that it's finished and pick up an empty cup for another sip Only one thing for it - have anothe cup KK
Accidental experiment: I did a sidamo a while back which was unusually citrussy and acidic. I thought maybe it was mislabeled and was in reality some yirg. Anyway, next roast of the same was done Very light, just on 1C for use as cold brew. As luck would have it, I didn't get around to buying filter bags and didn't have anything else ready, so resorted to drinking it... Think of the 'I just sucked on a lemon' face.. So to cut a long story short, after 1 or two lemon sucking experiences I was ready to bin it. Bad enough as espresso, but It even tasted like it was trying to curdle the milk if you dared try it that way. Forgot about it for 3 weeks then came back for a last try before chucking it. It was now 4weeks post roast and really nice. Smooth, 'complex' flavours with only a hint of acidity, and all the sourness gone!

Very interesting mate! I'm not a fan of this style, 'if I want a lemon, Ill buy a lemon' but it does sound intriguing. Worth a try when I do my next cold press. Thanks for sharing mate!
