After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Boiler Insulation

Hi Everyone,

I decided some time ago that I'd like to insulate the boiler on my Diadema Unico Splendor (aka Blingy BCF Junior Levetta).  A CS member procured a bulk order of Armaflex so I was one of the lucky ones that received a small sheet of: http://www.armaflex.com.au/WWW/armacell/INETArmacell.nsf/web/0DC95D9AE04FC4C9C1257796005B44C5?OpenDocument&Nav=42F2A0420593D306C1257797004D27A6

Upon opening my machine I discovered to my dismay that some of my wires had suffered heat damage to their insulation so a quick look over by my sparkie (here at the time fixing some wiring) and some gloop to fix/seal the wires and he pronounced it good. I also got from him the okay to wrap those wires in a heat/fire retardant material to protect them further.  Pfttt.... overkill..... a coffee fanatic... never!

You'll also see in the bottom of photo 1 some corrosion around the bottom of the boiler.  WHAT FRESH HELL IS THIS???  If anyone in Crema land can reassure me that this is normal I'd be very grateful.  Otherwise you may see this machine going cheap cheap cheap on Ebay.  It's an older 2005 model but I love it and I don't want it to die.  My wife has told me I'm allowed to replace it but I am supposed to be the financially responsible one and with one toddler in the house and the threat of more... you get the picture... and here they are.

The Armaflex went on easily and I cut a chunk out around the copper pipes to the group so I didn't change the thermodynamics of the group.  The straps are stainless and positioned away from any wiring connectors.

    Surface by the looks and due to some splashing and splatter from the Anti Vac Valve ??? YOU  DID use a soft wire brush to clean it up before putting on the Insulation ????     Then I would not give it too much of a Thought at this stage... If it is clean, then with no extra fluid etc. then less chance of the oxidisation getting too much worse. If left dirty etc. then it will grow with time..  IF so then maybe worth a little re visit  ;)
    Thanks AM! I didn't enclose the boiler in insulation so it is easy to access those trouble spots. I also didn't want to bump wire/connections on the top and bottom plate so played it safe for now. What can I coat it with after removing the offending oxidized material to protect it?
