Well I've tried the WotB  'Shabby Kitchen' venue and it wasn't too shabby. I also had the pleasure of sampling the Wine of the Bean commercial venture, unfortunately on its last day of trading.

Ok guys - have got some copies of our classic 'History of the Espresso Machine' - a reprint of a 3-part series from our 2006 issues, condensed from Ian Bersten's authoratative book - it's a great read for coffee-philes like ourselves and [dare I say it] a bit of a collectors item... one each week to give away for the next month for the best review [including 3-4 digital pics]!! A

Too lazy to find the send: Ilan Cafe Blackall St (Cnr Victoria Pde) Thursday Island  Queensland  4875 Situated in the Gab Titui Cultural Centre (Visitied July 2011) A coffee starved musician on TI, who had little else but sachets of Nescafe in his hotel room and no WiFi access... despite its promise... found an oasis.  Israeli ex-pat Mikey is an extraordinarily talented pastry chef who having worked in the top end of the restaurant scene took 'time out' to turn a very small cafeteria 'hole in the wall' into the cafe-hound's ultimate kennel.  Surrounded by a rich cultural tapestry Mikey uses simple ingredients conventionally with precision and generosity.  He runs menus for breakfast and lunch (mon-sat) and dinner (wed-sat) but don't leave without trying the pastries... seriously!!  Mikey's coffee is a straight commercial offering from Segafreddo (shipped in by boat) and the Mazzer Jolly and Bezzera two group pretty standard equipment because his nearest tech is in Cairns.  One does not visit TI for the coffee and for the ultimate coffee experience you'll need to bring your own; however, having a latte delivered to your table while you skype loved ones is a serious step up from a sachet of dirt and yesterday's news!
