Dogs and coffee

I've turned my little dog into a coffee connoisseur.

She loves her coffee, to the point of licking coffee grounds off the floor if I happen to spill any.  Her favourite is to wait until we've finished having coffee and she gets to lick the cup.  Yes I know gross to a lot of people but it's not like we use them without washing them afterwards.

The funniest part though is that even she knows good coffee from bad.  I made a crappy coffee the other day, little bit on the bitter side and when she's gone to lick it she had a sniff and then a tiny lick and then turned her nose up at it  ;D

The good coffees she'll want to lick the cup clean.

Just as a disclaimer: she's not allowed to do this all the time, like chocolate though I've never heard of a dog dying from being poisoned, plus she already has a heart condition due to old age, she's 15, and I don't want her dying any time soon

My brothers cats are staying with us while they're overseas and the other day one the little beggars helped himself to a snoot-full of the microfoam on the top of my freshly made Cap. I did ponder whether or not I should drink it but in the end couldn't bring myself to share his Whiskers spit. Not cute when they go for it before you've even had the first sip. Be careful what precedent you set for your pup SS!

hahaha I would have just drunk it but that's me and animals have always been a huge part of my life, I share carrots and apples with my horses, although granted I don't take a bite after they have, only before, that's a little more slobber than I'm willing to share  ;D Precedents, what like the licking the bowl after eating icecream or the drinking water from the glass LOL  I taught her to drink water from a glass when she was a pup so she didn't have to wreck her legs jumping up and down off the bed to get a drink. I have to say that I lived by myself for a long time with just her for company so these are things that just happen.  She had to live outside when I was with my ex-husband for years, luckily she had my other dog for company, so now that I have someone that loves her as much as I do, I tend, we tend to indulge her a little bit and he's actually allergic to animal hair There you go a little more person stuff about me

I'd be a bit careful about the caffeine content of the coffee if she has a heart condition. The chances of it causing an issue are slim, but dogs are super sensitive to it. I have a 1 1/2 year old border collie x cocker spaniel and she loves the smell of green coffee (will not eat it though), but hates it roasted, and hates the grinds etc.

As my OH has just said, it wasn't just turning her nose up, it was a look of disdain and how dare you offer me this crap  ;D Richard I'm definitely careful with what we give her.  In relation to coffee I found out somewhere online (have to do more research on that though) that a cup has 68mg of caffeine and you'd need 80mg to cause damage to a dog, so I think the little that she has every now and then isn't going to kill her.  I am very paranoid about what she gets and how she acts. She won't eat the green beans, funny how picky dogs can be, but if I spill a freshly roasted bean and she gets to it first then she'll sometimes eat them, not often though and I make sure I pick anything split up off the ground as soon as it happens.
