Sadly, my frankenpopper met an untimely demise. It now has a melted fan and I have 150g of laos bolaven farms beans smelling strongly of melted plastic.
Time for a trip to target to pick up a $16 temporary roaster.

Well Frank didn't actually have a melted fan. Found two vaporised diodes. I guessed they weren't able to cope with the extra load running at 28v, but when I removed the other two and looked at the specs, they were rated 100v  1a. Since I keep some nice fresh dc power to hand (car battery booster), I fired up the motor and it spins, but slowly and pretty soon glows red hot. Not good. Target are sold out of the cheap poppers, so now I need to work out how to get a zombie roaster into operation. I already have a couple of ideas.

Already picked up a breville crazy popper for $10 from vinnies, looks new and really easy to mod, but the hottop is now working (roasted my first batch of harrar last night) and I have plans to reanimate a zombie roaster by some simple tweaks - reckon a souped up pc fan running at 8000 rpm will loft the beans ok?
