After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Burnt Toast

edited August 2011 in Off-topic
While on a job to day, I found out that others had been given some bad news...

Have had a bit my self recently, so thought I would pass this on.

Burnt Toast.

When I was a kid, my mum liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then.  And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.  On that evening so long ago, my mum placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burned toast in front of my dad.  I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed!  Yet all my dad did was reach for his toast, smile at my mum and ask me how my day was at school.

I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember hearing my mum apologize to my dad for burning the toast.  And I'll never forget what he said:  "Honey, I love burned toast.."

Later that night, I went to kiss Dad good night and I asked him if he really liked his toast burned.  He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your mum put in a long hard day at work today and she's real tired.  And besides... a burnt toast never hurt anyone!"

You know, life is full of imperfect things... and imperfect people.

I'm not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else.  What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each others faults and choosing to celebrate each others differences, is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

So...please pass me the toast. And yes, the burned one will do just fine!  And please pass this along to someone who has enriched your life...

Life is too short to wake up with regrets...

Love the people who treat you right and forget about the ones who don't (So true).

  • Yes but would the reply be the same if someone handed you a burnt coffee? I've had several since I've been here in Byron - I just don't touch it after the first sip, but nor do I say anything about it (not that anyone has bothered to ask) On the flip side I've been to a few out of the way places and has fabulous coffee - moat unexpected - by passionate baristas using quality ingredients - Yum Yum Cafe in Ocean Shores springs to mind - that I would never have discovered if not for local recommendations - and I am sure to offer praise when it's warranted Cheers, Acg
  • How very true AM, myself and friends lost someone very special late yesterday, she was a CF girl and had received a double lung transplant a year ago, she lived every moment of the last year in a way to be admired and in a way that everyone should live their lives.
