Recommend me the "Best Steak" in Australia

I have it on good authority that the best steak in Australia is in Melbourne
At a place called Rockpool
Apparently they age the meat for a period of time (month/s) and it is sublime

As a surprise I may take my wife there on our 30th wedding anniversary if it is true
I will fly/drive to any destination in Australia for the best steak, just to put a smile on my wife's face

As mentioned in the other thread, the best I had is from Buderim Tavern, but I think it might be hit and miss, which is a shame. It may have been so good because I ordered a smaller cut that had been dry aged (Nolans Private Selection Rib Eye). I'm sure plenty of other great steaks are around (and the ambience of that place wouldn't be what you are after), and TBH I love my steak as much as I love my coffee. I'd love to try Rockpool. The way Neil Perry talks about their dry ageing makes me want to try it so badly. Next trip to Sydney for work I might just save all my food allowance up for one night there :P

The steak there is close to the best I've eaten. Just a short walk from RockPool is the Meat & Wine Co. I personally prefer the latter and I have eaten at them both on several occassions as I travel requently to Melbourne for work. Both are worth the visit and both will require a booking. The best steak I have had in Australia was at Guillaume at Bennelong Restaurant. If my wallet indulged I would eat there again and again. It's the sort of menu where you should assume a steak is just that - a steak with no sides, no sauce etc so make sure you order these. The service is impeccible and the view is litterally to die for!

Personally I don't think you can go past a Hog's Breath Cafe Traditional cut steak with hog tail fries and vegies.  18 hours slow cook goodness.

I have been to Hogs Breath on a few occasions and also found it nice My niece owns one in Maitland NSW KK

KK does that mean we can get discounts, we go there regularly, well regularly as in every couple of months.  :P Seriously though, my OH does love their steaks

+1. Although I did pick up a lovely piece of eye fillet yesterday, and I have one of the very old ridged cast iron griddle pan at home which is perfect for doing a good steak. The Brekky Creek pub years back used to do the best eye fillet, nearly two inches thick with bacon gravy/sauce and you could cut the steak with a spoon.

Ahh the memories of the Breakfast Creek Hotel My wife and I went on an Anniversary or Birthday I completely agree as a most wonderful steak If I remember it fondly then it must have been good KK

And they used to make their own pies using aged rump steak in real gravy....salivating uncontrollably here.  :D

Well KK it looks like you had a great meal and great service to go with it.  :thumb: My best steak experience occured in Tamworth, and technically not steak. At a place called 'The Safari Club'. Seven different kinds of animal to eat. Beef, Lamb, Duck, Croc, Buffalo, Ostrich, Chicken and one other I can't remember right now. When you order your meal you get the meat of your choice with a side of home made onion rings in tempura batter. Perfect for meat eaters! Over the three nights we were stuck in Tamworth, we went twice, and would have gone a third time if they hadn't been booked out.
