identifying hand grinders

I know that there are easily identified hand grinders around of the box variety, I was wondering how we do the same for those ones which have no makers plates or other such means of identification on them. I ask because I just picked up two of these and would like to find out where they were made.

That's all good. The bottom one I have seen one elsewhere called I think a 'Cosmopolitan' am going to ask when I'm next there regarding the origin. There's a little bit of work to clean one in particular up but they should clean up nicely.

Yep generic modern Chinese. Not that they won't grind ok for plunger or pourover or just for on the shelf  Some of the better older ones will do Espresso depending on condition but my Zass gets outdone easily by the modern ceramic ones. Depending on the grinder some of them don't feed the burrs very well due to the chute design. I did a little plastic internal funnel mod to a mates Chinese one which speeded the grind a heap.

I hadn't even heard of 'chinese' versions. So there ya go. I'll clean them up and send to the bay of 'e'. I had originally grabbed them for possible clean up and resell anyways but was open to holding onto them if worth it. I just added a little extra bling to my coffee gear and had to add some dollars to the gift voucher the kids got me for Dad's/Birth - Day to get the the new addition, grape is so sweet ;-)....so I really should be bringing some dollars back in.
