I LOVE THIS THING.... but...

It is with a heavy heart that I place a return for service request on my Neato xv-11.  His left side spring and plastic housings have come off!  My two year old an I were wacthing him bravely vacuum the carpeted lounge ('bobot' is her 'friend') when... THWANG.  No obsticle, no hinderance.  Upon closer inspection with use of a web guide and a phillips head both the black and grey attachments have fractured.  He once mounted my music stand and put out a call for help but that was just after we purchased him.  If the damage was done then then he has done well to last this long but surely they are designed more hardy than this. 

I purchased him from Aurobo... NOT from Amazon/Bongo for this very reason but was hoping to never hassle them for warranty claims.  Is this the only achillies heal in this great little machine and could you fix it by drilling/fastening the screw to the existing housings?  Anyway, here's hoping that buying in AU with the extra warranty provides some comfort in times of horror.... WHO NOW WILL DO THE VACUMMING???

Thanks Brett, now I want one of these. How long have you had your unit? How good a job does it do compared to manual vaccuming? Would you recommend these to others? Anything else I can use to convince the Mrs?

Hi KK, thanks for your offer. The great people at Aurobo have said to send the unit and it will be repaired witin the week. There is a really simple fix available but I shouldn't have to mod this soon from purchase. Muscles... They don't do edges well but they are the very best unit available for the money.  I have been searching for years for something that is effective and this problem aside it is a very effective unit!  Lots of info on the web and I couldn't live without it!

Well there is great news on the Bobot front!  He's back in blisteringly fast time and looking ready to conquer the worl...vacuuming!  Thank you Aurobot!!!  Buying locally has paid off in this case!

I'll put up some pictures if people want also!  The Aurobot people contacted me with 45minutes of my email with a local address for postage.  I boxed Bobot up on Friday and Platinum Expressed with insurance $23 to the address and he was returned by our regular AUpost courier on Thursday at 6:15pm.  That is pretty impressive turn-around repair/service.  I elected to send the package 'first class' with insurance and purchase the optional K-9 guard dog for my own peace of mind!  What was also great was the fact that no concern was raised by the retailer or repairer about the fact that the warranty void stickers were damaged becasue I had taken the case off to have a look at the problem.  When I realised that the plastic stays had snapped I simply photographed, removed the broken spring and stays and placed them in an envelope, replaced the cover and boxed him up.  Unscrupulous operators would take exception to the damage of stickers so TOP STUFF Aurobot!  A great retailer that stands by their products!

With two kids now I'm seriously considering one of these. My main concern is the rug - it's not a thick pile, but it is 'ridged'. I'd love to see some pics or vid of it in action,

I'll get on to it.  Provided the rug is flat on the on the floor it's all good. There is a new model out also which looks great.

This one does tile and carpet equally well.  The only issue I had was a rug bunched up under it and beeped for help.  Well that and the issue with a wheel popping off but touch wood, all is still good!

I've come back around to the idea of getting one of these, although a review I've read recently said they're incredibly loud - what's your perception Brett, with your sensitive muso ears?

Yep, they are quite loud.  We put ours on and go shopping.  Still going strong and there is a new improved model!!!!! http://aurobo.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=94&osCsid=ktk6m9p774rhm8022l8rkpv333 And don't forget, mine was repaired under warranty by these guys in days (I paid postage to them) and is still going as strong as ever.  Now if only they could design one that tidies also!
