After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Plunger preference?

edited January 1970 in Other Brewing Methods
Hi guys - was speaking to a roaster who I have a lot of respect for recently and he mentioned that now that he's a bit older, he finds himself drinking plunger a lot more... feels it's easier on the stomach; have to say, now that I'm beginning to be distinctly middle-aged am starting to know what he means - apart from being great for picking the nuances [not notes! 8)] of S.O.'s, I do find it a little easier on the stomach than espresso...

anyone got any comments on this, either way?

  • My plunger is mainly used for cold process and yes, it is easier on the stomach. Not sure about regular plunger. I normally do aeropress for long black style if brewing hot.
  • I drink plunger every day at work and really enjoy the flavor.  As a hypochondriac opera singer I am less prone to reflux after a day at work with plunger than a weekend day at home with espresso.  I'm sure that ther are other mitigating fActors but I'm inclined to agree with your roaster friend's premise.
  • Plunger is good, but these days I'm just loving Aeropress for that style of drink.
  • I'm gonna be the dissenting voice here - usually am though  :D I find brewed coffee gives me stomach pain quite easily, but I'm pretty prone to stomach bleeds and I can deal with a heap more espresso than siphon/filter/plunger. In this case, I think its the consistency which causes the problems for me, or the liquid volume.
  • yup, definitely find plunger a lot more sooothing on the stomach! dR  :D
