Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone knows  the owners of Auswana coffee and whether they might host a visit for those of us in Brisbane and the Sunny Coast?

This could be interesting, don't know anything about Aussie-grown coffee, except that it seems to be not particularly in favour.

The coffee growing industry in Oz really is a joke, over priced low quality beans and then you get a response like this, they need to do some serious thinking. ???

i wasnt going to say it but those were my thoughts exactly - well said,  Its also a sad comment on the insurance industry which has been allowed to run riot - we'll soon be worse than America..

Spot on DB! So nice to hear from you and your post is as usual right on the mark! I would have loved a vist up the highway and even taken a two year old thus guaranteeing the next generation through photos and memories... Plus my platinum card may have come out of moth balls...opportunity missed!

I happened across an Auswana stall at the Noosa farmer's market today and asked if they also supply greens. Their very curt reply was that they 'use ALL their greens', with a very pointed look. Didn't make me feel inclined to try their coffee either.

They certainly don't do themselves any favours, having said that, I doubt you missed much, have yet to try an Aussie grown coffee I enjoy.

I very much agree however with one caveat: I had an Aussie SO at Merlos in Fortitude Valley Brisbane that was expensive but quite nice.  I've had Auswana at the Farmers' Markets a few years ago and it wasn't a patch on the stuff at Merlos.  May have just been the Barista at the time however.

I live near Noosa, and my wife goes to the farmers markets each week.  About 2 years ago when I started on my coffee journey with Lucy, she bought me some beans from Auswana.  They where okay, and I asked her to buy more.  I asked her to ask the stall holder what the roasted on date was (I think they had a Best Before date on them), and his reply was "What do you want to know that for?", and then bascially set about telling my wife that I was stupid for worrying about the date it was roasted.  I didn't think it was a difficult question!!! After that I ditched them (and they aren't that well regarded in the industry up here either), and bought Signature Coffee beans, and then found Pioneer and live happily ever after, well until KK came into my life with his TO roaster!   Now I'm even more obsessed!  :rofl: Springbok, if it's a Sunny Coast gathering your after I'm happy to host, with WFO, and the lusso, and my KKTO.  I'm just under 2 hours north of Brisbane though.  Might be a bit far, but the sunshine coast numbers are growing!  We are up to 2 I think!  :rofl: Also on the coast Pioneer Roastary have hosted before for a CS social.  Not sure who's running the show now, but the quality is still there.  Also a nice place at Belmondos in Noosa called Clandestino Roasters.  Quality stuff so far from them.  Also there is Costa Noosa, and I'm heard of a new place down in Mooloolaba, but I will have to check that out first

I would imagine you would be in a much better position than I am to sample Aussie grown beans, I never see them down this way and have only been able to try them on my infrequent visits to the sunshine state, what I have tried have left me totally underwhelmed.
