After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Will leave you mathematicians and statisticians to ponder this for a while.  :)

Logic, working and answers below or wait until someone else has got it wrong

  • I have a question Why are there 2 X 25% represented (see A & D) KK
  • Love it.
  • Answer B) 50% As 50 % of nothing is better than nothing ... ???
  • Answer is 0 If all options were different, the chance would be 25% (1 in 4) but, as there are two 25% options, the chance of picking 25% is 50% For the remaining options, the chance of picking B and getting the correct response is 0 as the chance of picking 50% is 25% (1 in 4). Likewise with C (the chance of picking 60% is also 25% or 1 in 4. So it is impossible to select an option at random and that option is the correct chance. So there's my neuron exercise quota  for the day. But check the source of the pic (the Art of trolling that is, not Bean Flying, but I'm not sure the two are unrelated  >:( )
  • Well done yep the answer is there is no answer therefore it is not actually a question at all  >:D

Two terms in the question clash...Random and Chance as some would argue that they are opposed
Not true; the opposite of 'random' is 'biased'. I suppose you could get bogged down in a argument about the validity of the question. The concepts of 'choose' and 'random' could be open to discussion. The question is poorly worded in that it does not specify that the answer chosen need to be one of the four offered. The criterion for a random selection is that each option has equal chance of being selected.  A truly random selection could be made by blindfolding the sampler and asking them to choose a card with each of the 4 numbers written on them. But if we make the assumption that one must choose from the four  listed options, it still remains that the chance of choosing an option in which its corresponding value represents its probability of selection is 0. The question can be answered. I'll shut up now.  :tearhair:
  • mental health warning: one should under no circumstances engage with, confront or in any other meaningful why try and tackle this questionable question prior to coffee!
  • The act of making a choice signifies at the very least a concerted and deliberate thought and decision making process....random is simply that...a meaningless selection from a number of options in which no deliberation is required. The answer is post coffee  :coffee2: :D
  • You just wanted to do everyone's head in didn't you AM with that reply and yep it's always 42!!!
  • Next brain teaser please, but perhaps one that has an answer this time :D

And where Google can't provide an answer.. Here is a double banger.... Date of my First Marriage ? SEPTEMBER 19 (Brides love a Spring wedding) Date of my most recent Marriage ? NOVEMBER 11 (2nd attempt... REMEMBRANCE!!!!!! day) PS. One is of significance importance as I have a gut feel that it is close and I don't want to spend the next 12 months on the out  :pan
Answers in body of quote... how'd I go with my pschological scheluling
  • How about this one: That lawyer is my brother, testified the accountant. But the lawyer testified he didn't have a brother. Who is lying? As for AM's question - are you asking for hints on your anniversary? For your MOST recent wedding to occur it would imply that you have been married at least 3 times.
  • The accountant is a lady........

OK, but you don't get full marks as you didn't answer the question   ;)
  • I should have had coffee and cake beofre tackling that question.  ???
  • Claim mea culpa AM. Admit to your missus that you are terrible with dates (did you remember her birthday?) . Might go better with a bunch of flowers or over dinner. If that sounds risky, bribe your daughter ;)
