After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Market/event stories

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
One thing I like about doing events are the weird, different things and people you meet and see.

We were at a two day event. Left the marquee up with the machine there.
Started packing up at the end of the next day. Lifted the machine up to pull all of the cables through and..... a little bird had been sitting under there all day! It was very dazed and confused. I did pull it out, stick on a tree and gave it some water. Had flown away once we were about to leave.

  • At a very slllooowww event. A Thai woman who was doing ice cream at the event came over and chatted. Came inside the marquee and sat on the Waeco fridge. A customer came up and bought a coffee. She she said in a thick Thai accent "You cute! You have girlfriend? I have daughter.." Customer: " Oh... um no, but thanks... no thanks" Thai woman: " No, You no like Thai girlfriend?" Customer: " Um... err... I.. That's ok" Thai woman: " Thai boyfriend?.... Hehehehe..." Customer (who has gone red in the face) : " .....Um no." Thai woman: " Ha ha... You bum virgin?"
  • The other weekend Woman walks up sees me with a coffee van and a icecream truck with a little plastic seaco machine. Says "wow two options, which do I choose?" with no word of a lie goes and gets a coffee from the ice cream man!!! I shake my head and think why do I bother some days!! Brett

I hope she burned her tounge! Philistine!
  • I've been known to rock up to more than a few coffee stands at music festivals (admittedly this is before I had kids) and respond to the question, " Would you like a coffee?" with, "Sure... only if I can make it myself because it seems to me that you are having a little difficulty" and on three occasions I've ended up working the machine myself, getting paid for it, and even having my ticket purchase price refunded! I even got a special mention on one website for saving the day on new year's eve for working from 11pm till 7am - as the only other barista had worked two days and two nights straight due to lack of staff!
