tip for 16oz doubleshot take away cups

many coffee shops ive been to who use 16oz T/away cups, pour there double shot into two small glasses or a s/s jug wide enough to take both spouts on the group. this takes alittle longer, makes for more clean up and alot of the crema stays in the glass/ss jug...

i accidently came across a way to eliminate all the above...
i got a single group and put a double group basket in it....
the 16oz cup fits under the single spout (on an angle of course) and the T/away cup catches all the doubleshot coffee....
no extra jugs no extra clean up and as quick as smaller cups that fit under a single group
its the same double shot except it pours out of one spout
this way is very efficient and handy for a big rush

i dont know if the above is common practise but ive seen alot of shops using jugs/glasses to make a big cup

I managed to find a machine that will take the 16oz cups, not an easy feat when trying to minimize the element size in the boiler. Wished I had thought of that easy solution now.

I'd argue that 2 shots (meaning a doppio of 60mls) in a 16oz is far too weak to cut through the milk. I only offer 8oz & 12oz in my mobile cafe - 16oz 'buckets' are for the "quantity over quality" crowd. Tony

i must admit i too thought that 16oz was an overkill but @ $4.40 a pop they quickly pay for themselves!

when we started i thought the 16oz (we call jumbo) would just be a novelty which we would sell very lttle of compared to our 12oz (regular) to our suprize it was completely opposite... our daily sales are mostly 1/4 reg  3/4 jumbo i dont know wether its the quality or the quantity but the 100 odd people in the morning that buy just our jumbo seem to like it and its paying our bills....  very few ask for stronger..... i would be interseted in seeing if the 20oz would be as popular here as it is in the usa, you never see the yanks on tv holding anything less than a 16oz lol... and with australia being a "mini-me" america i think it'll catch on quickly

2 shots in a 16oz cup (the rest filled with milk) would taste identical to 1shot in a 8oz cup (again, filled with milk) as the ratio's are identical. 2shots in a 12oz would be stronger (talking just about flavour)than 1shot in an 8ozcup, and 3shots in a  16oz cup would be stronger still. So to summerise, if your coffee is strong enough for a one ounce espresso to cut through 7ounces of milk (volume of the cup less espresso), then 2ounces of espresso would cut through 14ounces of milk just as easily.

The last machine i worked with was a modified Conti with heads high enough to fith a 16oz(Devil) cup. i used a 10g basket for a sm, a 15g basket for a med and a 20 basket for a "jumbo".
