The reason experts have trouble imparting knowledge, is because they make assumptions about the receiver of the information. Example: Last night, AM was talking me through what I needed to take measurements on my boiler element to work out what was wrong. He'd incorrectly assumed that I'd disconnected the boiler element probes before measuring. Even stupider is that I should know better!

Nice thread. Sometimes, the process runs quicker, sometimes slower. Real experts will find the gap in understanding between parties and achieve  communication. Assumptions are actually a Good Thing (TM), checking them and confirming accuracy are vital (in all senses of the word when dealing with electrickery among other things). Results are a good test of success.
