After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Sugar - Who uses it.

  • Ahhh yes, I'd forgotten about the holier than thou attitude of those who have given up something, they never stop trying to convert the fools who still indulge. ::) No chance here, in fact I would go as far as to say coffee without sugar ain't worth drinking. :stir
  • I don't know DB, I started drinking coffee white with seven. I was also drinking a couple of litres a day of coke. Over the years I cut out milk (allergies) and coke. Eventually I just decided to stop sugar too, along with a lot of other vices. I understand why others like sugar, probably better than most. It's not just a matter of 'sweet', it changes the flavour. And that's what we're all after, right? Flavour? So I have it without sugar and I'm learning to taste the differences each day. You have it with sugar and get differences each day that you appreciate. The only requirement for being able to objectively discuss these things is consistency. And not even that us required to simply enjoy what's in the cup.
  • I'm not advocating that others should give up sugar, and I would never presume to tell others how to drink their coffee, I just  think its a cheap and nasty product added to many supposed 'health' foods just to get the kids addicted!

You're such a sweetie, DB. It's still not too late to repent  ;)

Holy guacamole Kelsey, white with 7 teaspoons of sugar (that's 35 grams or just over an ounce)  washed down by a couple of litres of coke :o that's out of control, my wife and I were just discussing a friend who uses 5 teaspoons in white coffee, the most we've ever seen anyone use, you've just broken his record by 40%. When I say I enjoy sugar with my coffee I'm talking a single coffee spoon of the stuff per cup, that's about 3 grams, 3 cups a day a little less than 2 teaspoons  in total, hardly anything to get excited about. Consistency, yep I certainly agree with that, along with only changing one variable at a time. :coffee2:

Yep, those were the bad old days alright. Kicking the coca cola habit was a nightmare. I was also downing a couple of liters of milk a day. I don't drink either at all any more. It's amazing how much you can alter your tastes tho. I can't stand soft drink anymore and rarely have any dairy, save some Parmesan and stinky cheese. It's probably saved my life, to tell the truth.
  • I am currently reading a book "The Coffee Book" by Jacki Baxter, in one of the early Chapters she is talking about the origins of coffee and how different cultures drink it. I think this is rather pertinent to this thread.
As one of the largest growers of coffee, Brazil's economy relies heavily on coffee. Needless to say, Brazilians love coffee for its taste too. The bustling streets of Rio are filled with coffee carriers delivering the brew to thirsty office workers and it is not exceptional for up to 20 cups per day to be drunk per person! The morning brew is likely to be caf
