Coffee and Camping

As we get into the camping time of the year and a conversation I had with a customer this morning. What gear to you use when camping to get your caffeine fix?

My current group coffee maker is a metal Syphon and Zassenhaus Hand grinder for 3-4 mugs of coffee at a time. I was using a 600ml Avanti Plunger for years before that too.



Also timely I ran across this collapsible silicon topped Kettle on the net today too. Great bit of kit to go with the Presso or Aeropress.

I was brought up camping, that kettle would be brilliant, so many times we'd have the kettle just not fitting and unbalancing everything else.  If my parents still went camping I'd be buying them one.  I miss camping.

As I've mentioned previously there's about 120 of us who go camping each year at the same spot - in the state forest in east gippsland, and I take my commercial Rancilio s27, and my mazzer major with me - we also bring our own generator with us to keep everything running and set up a sound stage with live performances each night! Previously I've roasted all the coffee from home but time and volume do not permit this year - I'm off to my commercial roaster's facility on Tues am to do a couple of 6kg roasts of my home stock - to take with us camping! Will also be nice to put a dint in the not inconsiderable pile of green beans I've accumulated and to put them to good use! I'm actually really looking forward to the whole experience, from roasting, to camping - and just being on holiday with family and friends and some wider community! Like previous years I'll be running espresso making workshops and will have strict instructions on who can use the machine - basically anyone who's been trained by me! So eight days camping then driving north for three weeks with the fam - havent settled upon any final destinations yet but we're got a few places to stay along the way - so it should be a most excellent adventure! For anyone who's tried their hand at the cafe business, especially whilst brining up a young family - I'm sure you will appreciate what a tremendous amount of effort is required to keep the whole shebang afloat - and substantial time out from the business especially in a holiday setting is crucial for both peace of mind, and to spend quality time with family Burn out is also a big risk factor as a cafe owner and substantial recovery time is highly recommend! p

I am semi off the grid camping for a few days, so chat amongst yourselves about me. Oh thats right sorry it's broken still.  :head: Having my first days off since November but back on Monday  Tanzanian Tec Estate, Aluminum Siphon, Zass Grinder to struggle along with at camp.

A small esky with some cheese and butter.  A few cans of unknown food stuff, some UHT and some INSTANT COFFEE :'(

nothing wrong with instant when camping. You do take your own home made instant don't you? Some strong cold processed works pretty well. cold/warm/hot, all good.
