After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Summertime and the living is, hotter than hell.

Hotter than hell here today, forecast 38c, and hotter tomorrow ::) guests for New Years eve dinner and staying overnight, so spending most of the day cooking.
I imagine tomorrow will be a day of recovery. :coffee:

  • It ain't necessarily so... So that's who took our hot weather... thanks for the reprieve southerners.  It is a gentle 24deg overcast and breezy.  Before we get too smug up here however I had many many Townsville Christmas celebrations at truly unbearable temperatures where you were afraid to go to the toilet because the smallest room in the house was also the hottest.  There is nothing as classy or glamorous as emerging from the toilet red in the face and positively wet through with sweat and a puddle on the floor beneath where you were seated.  Drink lots of water southern friends and don't over-do it!

Ahh, brings back memories of a new years I spent in Cairns, where finishing going to the toilet (sitting down, because standing was too damn hard) always finished with wiping a sweat pool off the seat. Good times.
  • Most of my roasting is done late at night and the early hours of the morning (most would call nighttime). As my body clock had to shift yesterday for a shite-the-bed early morning interstate flight, I thought the best strategy would be to get in here early this morning and smash out some batches before it reached that miserably hot level in the afternoon. Smug me cruising down the road at 5:00am this morning with a delightful cool 17 degrees thinking this was such a good idea - what a clever boy am I. Damn gas supply was off for "essential emergenct maintenance" in the area. Of course it was not obvious as I was preparing greens and whistling a tune, happy, smart, clever, I'll beat the heat, ha-ha, just too good........ while the roaster was heating...........BURNER FAILURE..........Yikes. After a couple of anxious moments and angry calls I raced around the streets to find out who the culprits were.....sure enough 2 streets away there they were having a smoko break at 6am......" yeah mate, she will be back on in 20 mins....no worries". Nup......I went round 3 times to bother them by 8am I think they got the message........ Of course, there was nobody else around.....all the businesses were closed for the break. Gas interruption is a major PITA..........particularly on smart roasters that have all the extra ESV compliance safety systems.........getting it to light again is never easy - in fact it took an hour and I almost used a hammer on the Dungs controller. By 9:30, the temp had climbed to 27 and once I fired up the beast it was up to 32 by the time the first batch rolled off....... Not looking forward to a late finish in this heat.......likely to exceed 40 degrees inside the roastery. All the best laid plans...........
