After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Coffee Goggles Syndrome (CGS)

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
Part humor, part therapy for yours truly.

The Contact Us page for mycuppa receives about 5 - 15 messages a day. Some are just overseas sellers trying to flog dodgy products but some are from locals genuinely seeking help.

A recurring theme is what I refer to as the Coffee Goggles Syndrome, or CGS for short.

It starts like this........."Hello, I was on holidays with my husband in {insert exotic location} and we had some locally grown coffee as espresso and it was the absolute best coffee we have had in our life, can you please help us we are trying to find coffee from {insert exotic location}. We must find this coffee as we have never been able to have any coffee like it since, please help".

Receive probably 3-4 a month along the same lines.......

From my handy toolkit of canned responses I extract the pertinent part that explains what happens to us poor addicted souls when we take vacations and deprive ourselves from quality coffee for days and possibly weeks. Throw in a few scientific terms about super-sensitive palate, blah-blah-blah............and then end the explanation saying I'm sorry but your husband has suffered an acute case of CGS.

Have you suffered from CGS and what was it ?

Absolutely!  In Vietnam I had quite a few Cafe Sua Da but none as good as the first I had in the old district in Hanoi.  If I was to make a coffee that tasted like this St home I'm sure I'd sink it but I remember the first one as heavenly!
