Temp tags for milk jugs

edited January 1970 in Accessories
Has anyone used a stick on temperature labels on milk jugs that change color as the milk reaches the correct temperature?

I would think this would work great in a commercial environment.

Can imagine having one on a regular milk jug, and also one for the soy jug.
Saves on cross contamination when comparing with a temperature probe.

I wonder how well the temp tags would stay on, especially during washing up.

  • I've heard of them and good things too.  They survive dishwashers.  I've been wanting to try but haven't got around to it.
  • I use both and love them. Much easier to use then the normal thermometers. http://www.coffeeparts.com.au/accessories/thermometers The Temp Tag are much cheaper but I prefer the Espresso gear ones as you can see where you are at. Is this a useful point on the machine that I have for markets/events. The steam wand length allows me to put the jug on the tray, leave it and do something else. But the Temp Tags are still great. We wash our pitchers in the dishwasher and the stickers still going strong. Beanflying has mentioned to me that boiling water can effect these. So not a great idea to wash out jug with the hot water spout.
  • I personally don't use one but I would give it a go if I was given one KK
  • I've been mulling these over recently too, might have to push the button and give them a whirl
  • Thanks for your feedback guys. Based on all your kind comments, i will use the sponsor on this forum to source the Espresso Gear temp gauge label, and yeh, so that i can see what stage the milk is at. The thing with using your hand to gauge is either the hand gets blase about sensory feelings after some time, or one is punch drunk and sensory perceptions are different after one or many brews of the alcoholic kind.  Personally i see the old temp probe stick gauge as very 90s. • The other good thing about the stick ons are that you don't get the lag that you get with the normal thermometers. If you do buy them make sure you double check which side you adhere them to, I have learnt that lesson! :head: Of course you could always learn to hold the jug in either hand.
  • Haha bottomline, I would hate to duplicate the same mistake as u did.  ;) Guessing if i hold the jug with my left hand, the stick on should be on the right side? Gary at G
  • I,ve just received a bulk purchase or 3 Attento frothing temperature labels, and i must say they are a must if you want a good result.                 They don't get in the way and are easily readable. The colour change as the temp rises is instantaneous, unlike probes which lag.                   My best results came when i turn off the steam wand just as the colour starts to change from green to black on the 65 degree marker. I bought mine from coffeeparts.com. I have bought a number of products from them, and have always been happy with the purchases and service. A business card is always included in every delivery for future reference. Gary at G
  • Well after much abuse, fast hard events and many many dishwasher cycles the Espresso Gear Atteno stick on thermometers are still working perfectly. Little or no fade and still accurate. Surprisingly holds accuracy better than the standard stick type. The Temp Tag however have gone. Now hard yellow. Cheaper to start with but cost more in the long run. Still a good choice if want to try a stick on with out the large price.
  • Thanks BL, I was just about to buy some of these, and saw the temp tag ones at a local coffee shop.  The price difference was double for the Espresso Gear Atteno ones and I was going to ask if anyone had used them. The espresso gear ones can be had for $15.50 from there online store.  Not cheap, but if they work over a long period then more than worth it. :)
  • Would tend to agree with the temp tags failing. This is normally as a result of washing with boiler water in my case which is way over their rating. Still preferring them for my mobile use as it is a definite stop or go signal rather than having to be more attentive with the other (Also a bigger panel for my dodgy old eyes ;) ) I am on my second temp tag at home now and got well over a year of use with the first and may have been closer to two. Both are great BTW :) For anyone who hasn't seen both Temp Tag Attento Thermometer
  • I have both of them and prefer the espressogear ones too!
  • I use the temptags at home and they last for ages..no issues...have just purchased some new ones for my mobile coffee van venture due to start soon..to be honest i didnt realise there were other ones on offer...may look into them after reading these comments although in all honesty i find the temptags great...i dont however put them thru my dishwasher..
