Interesting story, and would be interesting to see who they appoint to do the audits and how they will measure it..


So I get 15kg of beans a week, but how do they determine what is skimmed..  I may do coffee and nothing else  :thumb:


By looking at my data to see what size baskets I use and how many shots and what wastage there might be ???
Or is it more of a trigger to fully look at all the books  :angel:

God they are knobs. They can't win, ever. The food industry is by far the easiest to do cashies and lots of them. Oops my freezer broke down overnight, all that stock is in the bin mr tax man, honest. Now give me my tax right off while I sell my damaged stock for cash. A lot of the shops where I'm holidaying run as cash only

They don't expect to eliminate tax fraud. Their goal is really to increase revenue, much like other businesses. Having done a spot of data mining towards the end of my time in IT, it is amazing what you can uncover in a few simple clicks, given a good data warehouse and suitable mining tools. The article does say that they will send a 'please explain' letter as the first step. My wife got one of those letters recently. Two phone calls and a copy of previous letters from the family assistance office sorted the issue. Personally, I use cash wherever possible as I am a tad wary of the amount of data  collected from electronic transactions. It is getting harder though - some places are reluctant to take cash.
