After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

New Cafe Set Up - Equipment

Hi All,

I have a new role whereby I have been asked to set up a cafe for my company in a small shopping centre. I have no idea about the best equipment and am hoping that I can call on this forums expertise:

I would love your thoughts about the best machines and equipment that I should look into:

Factors to consider:
Weekly turnover approx $15-20K, so I imagine approx 1500 - 2000 coffees a week.
Small working space, but plenty of bench space (possible to be doing three coffees at a time?)

Would love any advice you can give me no matter how basic or stupid it may make me feel!

Cheers, Ben

  • Um that is like asking a car forum what is the best car? Where are you because servicing is the most important aspect of purchase, downtime for parts to come halfway across the country is a good way to loose money. Talk to your local tech to see what machines they commonly sell and what sort of parts they carry. For that sized cafe just about any normal sized 2 group machine will be able to keep up pair it with a decent grinder and you should be away.
  • G'day Ben and welcome to the forum. I'll also echo what Brett said about ensuring local back-up for your machine, it's essential. May I ask what company you work for? Has this sort of thing been done by them before, and if so, what equipment did they use for that fit out? Are you looking at leasing or buying the equipment outright? Speak to a local roaster as they often have equipment for sale or lease, plus the local repair contact. Good luck with it. Steve.
  • gee... with the kind of overheads and tight lease agreements traditionally associated with shopping centers, you would want to get this kind of thing right from the beginning i echo the sentiment of the other posts - bring the experts in! what area are you referring to? this could help us to provide some local recommendations and training?
