After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

New concept Idea for Cafe.

Hi there

I have been working on a new concept/Idea for a small business for quite a while now and I am wanting to launch it here in Sydney.  I am very confident with my Ideas and truly believe it would make a fantastic business. At the moment there are two parts to my business, one part I feel very confident to do myself but the other Idea of combing it with a small to medium sized cafe is were I loose the confidence. I have never run or owned a cafe before and people tell me everyday that it is really hard work.
I am posting this post hoping that some experts in the industry will be able to help me with my decision. I have several ways I can go with this business venture.

1: Loose the cafe concept all together - however the whole concept needs the cafe to reach its full potential.

2: Bring in a Partner who has the expertise in cafes - however I would not know were to start with finding such a person. I suppose an investor in the cafe industry would be an answer. If anyone has any info of advice on this It would be well appreciated.

3: Hire Chefs and Managers to manage and run the kitchen and Cafe area so I can work on the other side of the business.

Also what are the average start up costs for a small cafe?????

Hope somebody out there can help with my Dilemma.

Thanks

Trisha

  • Hi Trisha, good luck with that - I've had heaps of experience in hospitality but I still bought in a consultant chef to set up the food side of the business including kitchen and menu design and implementation and hiring of kitchen staff try reading my ongoing post in the trade section: http://bestcafes.com.au/forums/YaBB.cgi?num=1237895691 which tells you the ins and outs of getting a cafe off the ground - its not the be all to end all but it does provide an indication of the amount of effort required to get one going I also made my consultant chef a partner in the business as incentive for them to stick around also have a look at the best coffee in sydney and see what makes those operators stand apart from the head of the pack hope this gets you started on your journey and keep the questions coming! Cheers. ACg
