After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

You must try this!

Ok, so cleaning up my kitchen on the weekend I found a manual grinder that I have had for about 15 years and never used. So I set it up on the bench and tried it out with 7 grams of my MM, PNG and Colombian Ka-Pow blend for the Cremina. The reults were outstanding!! The only problem was that it took about 24 minutes to get through the 7 gram dose... what am I doing wrong  :tearhair:

Here is a link to a similar model, have any of you used one of these that can offer some tips?

  • Grind to the side of it in a swirling motion much like this  :stir A bit hard at first but when the beans break up a bit its easier. An Indian told me that this is the correct way. Also, just a side note, grinding the beans like this as opposed to using sharp blades will give different, but subtle results when tasting.
  • Also, some mortar/pestles are just the wrong shape and wont work well.
  • I've got the older version where you grind the coffee with your teeth then add boiling water!
