After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Barista courses in Melb?

Does anyone know of are good barista course in Melb? I want to learn the basics first then the advance stuff. I found this site http://www.vicbar-school.com.au/ and theres a course called  "Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee" cost about $175, is that any good? Does anyone have any recommendations?

  • First check and see if they are accredited or not. As far as I know you cant go past William Anglis College in the city - they provide excellent training and excellent facilities. Otherwise Lavazza used to provide some excellent training, but you would need  to contact them to see if this is still the case. Cheers, Pat

  • Thanks Chris and Pat for replying, I think I'll enrol in the ABC of espresso making then the advanced espresso at William Anglis College.
  • too good. once you complete the course let us know how you went! Cheers, pat
  • I believe that Box Hill TAFE also have some reasonable courses. I am not sure if Justin Metcalf is still involved, but if he is, I would go for one of his courses. He has an excellent knowledge of all things coffee. John

Check out Justin Metcalf website www.justinmetcalf.com. If you can get a lesson with Justin, you'll a real lot.

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys  ::). I can assure you that the Advanced course at the academy covers off at least that level of detail- if not more....We spend a heap of time on palate work- which is crucial. One thing I can guarantee is that you won't see a spatula or stencil anywhere....unlike the methods used by some other training establishments  ;). 2mcm
  • 2mcm My post was not a vote of 'no confidence'. Apologies if you took offence! However, not knowing anything about your courses and the outcomes achieved, it is hard to make a recommendation. There is also a matter of giving the 'punter' a choice. John
  • Hi guys, I did the William Angliss course and it was ok but was pretty expensive and didn't go long enough. A friend did the Victorian Bar School course and was really happy because she was able to go back an practice for free Another good place I hear of is http://www.chtmelbourne.com.au NE way.
