After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Troubleshooting RoastMonitor s/w problems.
One software package popular with home roasters is RoastMonitor. It has been available for quite some time and is currently available for download at no charge.
Hopefully this thread will offer some assistance to those having trouble getting it up and running as, for various reasons, getting community troubleshooting assistance for RoastMonitor can be awkward. I noticed a post from someone on another forum (coffeesnobs) who was unable to get the software to recognise their data logging meter.
The goal of troubleshooting is to identify where the root cause lies - having access to different software packages can be a great assistance in this and roastlogger provides similar functionality to RoastMonitor, but implemented in a different way.
The response I gave them follows:

Try roastlogger s/w. If that works, then you know it is a problem with how you configured the RoastMonitor s/w.
If roastlogger also has problems seeing the meter, then you know it is not the roastmonitor set-up. Also, errors from two different s/w packages will give you more information to work with.
I'm not saying you necessarily want to use alternate software long term - many snobs like the roastmonitor s/w and are very happy with it.
