After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Mini hopper

edited January 1970 in Accessories
Hi all. After than damn KK put the idea in my head I couldn't resist any longer. The ginormous hopper on the eureka had to go. After cobbling a few bits together and faffing about for most of the day ( and spending a shitload on moulding silicone) I came up with this protoype. Ignore the colours. I was doing another pour at the time and just chucked in what was left  The real one will be a solid colour I think, probably black. The original screw to lock it in is still in play.

  • Ohhh Nice. You'll have to get them marketed asap too!  You'll have everyone colour co-ordinated soon! :)
  • Need to find someone with a lathe or two to spin up the masters  ;D. Making double diameters with holes saws is a PITA

Disc sander (OD) and a bobbin sander (ID) will do the trick also.
  • Would definitely be easier to machine up a lump HDPE or even steel as a master. Cheaper than ally or SS and no dramas of timber.
  • True, better for mas production too. What is your trade derrilex?

I wanted one of those because my hopper on the BNZ is a monster Glad the idea was good enough to run with it KK

Good idea KK. With a lathe the master could be made in 10 minutes as opposed to 4 hours. The moulded and cast. Or just make out of ally for a one off. But multiples in resin would only suit if the dimensions were the same which I'm guessing they aint. The OD of the snout of mine is 52.5, OD of the upper section is 62.3 and depth of the snout is 20
  • Agree, chatter chatter, chatter - ping
  • D, just remember different grinders have different hoppers. :) Your getting into this resin business.  Is this a new thing for you, or have you been doing it for a while?
  • If you have a look in my grinder project thread, I have a stainless one for the Compak K10/Wega 8.6 - it's a great asset to single dosing.
  • Relatively new, born from desperation due to lack of work in the building industry and a desire to try and move people away from mass produced shit and pastiche accessories to stake a claim in the name of individuality.  I dont see mini hoppers been a viable thing to do at all. This is just for me, to improve my situation. The tamper stands I think are a total goer as they cannot be mass produced but I need mass marketing and international market saturation but have no $$$ to do so. But for me the pleasure is keeping the brain working and producing something no one else in the world has. Serves me right for choosing previous /current professions that people can do without when times get tough. Very stupid career decisions and very demotivating. Yep, saw that G. In reality the only way to go.

    Relatively new,
If you need any ideas with making the molds, let me know. My trade is an engineering patternmaker. I've been making molds for various stuff for near 20 years. Ceramic pipes, various ali castings, plastic bottles, headlight protector, bonnet protector, weather shields and now steel stuff, mainly for mining. Can be an interesting process, oh and I'll be happy to sign an indemnity form so I don't steal your idea (might be one coming out 15% different really soon though ) PM me if you need to, I'm in Brisbane
  • Interesting. I came really close to doing a toolmaking apprenticeship as my first trade. In hindsight it would have been a good trade but motor mechanic is a really good grounding - very versatile. Pity the you get paid more working at Maccas. As far as indemnity goes, not necessary. I might just give it to you. Good luck selling any
  • Think or a Toolmaker who uses timber and various resins instead of metal and you have a pattern maker. I don't really want your idea but might have some ideas for you re marketing. I'll think on it some more and pm you if I think it might help.
  • Cool Ronin. Always up for a new angle
  • I have been tinkering with mini hoppers for my Kony.  Using the Mini Mazzer hopper and then on to lexan or cast resin/plastic tubing.
