After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
We are currently able to offer a number of cafe commercial use "depurators" (rechargeable water softener / filters) to the members at way below cost.
There are two sizes, "8 litre" and "12 litre".
Traditionally, these are the "correct" capacity to use with 2 and 3 group machines, but of course they can be used in any situation you wish.
They are a stainless steel construction with brass taps, and are filled to the required internal level with the same organic resinous beads that you find in the mini water softeners used in some semi commercial machines.
While depurators are meant to be plumbed in line to permanently plumbed espresso machines, you can also of course connect them up to a water fountain on top of the bench, from where you can flow water into a jug to feed your "tanked" machine, electric jug, drinking water bottles etc.
After the initial purchase price and whatever it costs for fittings and flexible water lines to complete the fitment, the only cost to regenerate is the cost to purchase a kilo of rock salt from time to time. There is an exchange of ions between the sodium in the salt, and the calcium that is trapped in the beads, rendering the beads to be free again to combine with more calcium coming through in the water, and stopping that calcium from travelling into the machine where it would otherwise form scale.
The rest is up to you, a little bit of your time to do the regeneration process
