After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Well, guess it was only a matter of time: http://www.voanews.com/content/starbucks-opens-first-store-in-india/1530173.html

have no doubt this is a big thing for them [starchucks] and with the sort of deep pockets they have, am sure they'll be there for the long haul.

  • At $1.50 the prices are still out of the reach of many.  I suppose that's why they set up where they have.  I wonder how they'll give back when it all becomes a roaring success  ::)
  • They're sourcing all of their coffee product locally which has got to be a boon for local farmers if they doesn't drive prices into the ground
  • For a minute there when I reread the title of this post I thought it referred to Chuck Norris making chai in Hevean using his teeth to grind the spices ...
  • :'(  Meh. You thought Chuck Norris. I thought it was Chuck Hann moving his beer brewing enterprises to India or at least expanding... Charbucks, Try saying that in an Indian accent for their radio commercial adverts.  :stir

Chuck wouldn't need to use his teeth to grind spices,...he would just use his eyelids !!    ;) :D

The Grand Canyon was formed by Chuck Norris tamping pre-ground Charbucks!
  • Chuck wouldn't need his teeth to grind spices - he would just have to look at them and they would fall apart ...

But is Chuck's grind repeatability consistent?  Before you answer know that merely doubting Chuck's ability for consistency of grounds and dosing accuracy would be very dangerous.  What's more, the inquiry is redundant because no human has the palate to survive a Chuck Shot!
  • besides chuck doesnt need to drink coffee - he simply inhales it...

I hear he can boil water with his rage.
  • What is it with this Chuck Norris obsession on the web?  :head: Who's responsible for this? Must be some pimple faced kid somewhere who casually dropped a comment and it must have becomed quite catchy to use his name. Psy is all the rage now. Do the gangnam style i say. Mike Tyson was a great fighter. Use him. I swear if i ever hear C$%#k N0@!*s again...
  • I heard heavy banging on the door but i ain't answering it. It could be Chuck Norris the bible basher...
  • Wow, that went OT. I wonder if they will start having obesity problems in India if all these big franchises start opening in India. With Starbucks, every time I've walked past (note that I didn't stop) I've noticed that people are always drinking a jugachino, or something topped with cream!

And we're back... That's a great point.  What's more, their health service infrastructure surely isn't ready to cope with the health problems associated with a reliance on cheap up sized calorie packed meals.  Lets hope they all stay largely unaffordable for the masses.  Isn't that a disgustingly arrogant and pompous statement that I just made.  How sad that this was my first thoughts unfiltered by a day of stress and frenetic pace.  I was going to delete it but.... I wonder if Charbucks having time to reflect, at any point considered the welfare of its new hosts?  I wonder if they really want to connect, to grow, adapt and contribute.  If so their product would be good for their new patrons and available to a large majority.  Is progressive inclusive commerce still too expensive post GFC?
