After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Aroma Festival

For those who weren't aware, Sydney's annual Aroma Festival takes place on July 11th.

Thought I'd open a thread for those who may have questions (before) or feedback (afterwards) on the event.  By the way, word was that last year's event was poorly organised. Is there any feedback from people involved this year, in terms of how smoothly things are running?

  • Speaking as a visitor to Aroma, I thought it was quite well organised. Mind you, we got there around 10:30 in the morning so we didn't have to wait too long for an espresso. It was good going to the Swans game afterwards totally wired!! Still can't believe the $24 cab fair from the Rocks to the SCG!!!
  • ::)Is there any person in the Aroma festival that does not need all their stall space. :o I may have a coffee related product ie not coffee or coffee equipment, that I would like to sell. I would obviously work the stall also.  ;D Feel free to send me a private email and I will get back to you [email protected] JD
  • COULD SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT I COULD EXPECT TO SEE AT THIS FESTIVAL AND IS IT WORTH TRAVELLING DOWN FROM BRISBANE.
  • I travelled from Adelaide last year and it was very worth while. I went last year and did some hours on the Amanti stand. Enjoyed the talks and the fantastic atmosphere. To get over 100,000 poeple to an event like that was great. Again for people working in coffee a great time for networking and seeing what is around. Hopefully I will be there again this year and it will be an annual migration for me Brian
  • Brian Maybe we can catch up JD
  • In answer to your comment on is it worth the travel.....?? the answer is yes!!! In my first year as a barista, i was flown to Sydney to represent a well know coffee establishment, and loved every minute of it!!! Eight hours of hand tamping and i had the blisters to prove it!!  I will possibly be attending this year, but unfortunately not making any espresso :( But, i do recommend that you go, even if you dont make coffee, just for the experience and also the atmosphere. • Am going to Trieste for the world Championships and to do some more training while I am there. Will try to be there for a bit of a chin wag and to let you know what is happening in Adelaide. I held an educational training night up at the cafe last Wednesday night and had a fantastic time....am I not scared of showing people what we do here...no because I believe that we are second to none here in Adelaide and if they can learn from me it means that the level of good coffee has stepped up a notch. Patrons wanted to know about domestic machines and faults etc so I had a technician here for demonstration and question and answer time... went down a treat. Will look at doing it in another 2-3 months. Looking forward to catching up again John Oh yeah... the scent bottles are working very well in the coffee classes and making people more aware of what the smells are regards Brian
  • Hi guys - obviously Aroma's on this weekend - in past festivals, forum members have met up, but we have no Crema magazine stand this year :o Please feel free to make a post to organise a time for an informal forum 'catch up' if you feel so inpired.  I understand most of the activity will be centred around the Overseas Passenger Terminal this year - let us know if you can think of a good landmark to meet at! Cheers Admin
  • Admin Expect to be floating about between 11 and 2 Were you buying lunch???? JD
  • I think Admin should set up a make shift stand, making instant cappuccino's (near the Lowenbreau Keller - as that is where I will be having lunch before or during my attendance at Aroma). That way, we would know where to find him. Who knows, I may inadvertantly bump into some of you there. Enjoy Ciao Patrick
  • I understood that Fresh Coffee was intending to set up a stand this year, specially for members of the Forum - Fresh? Actually the Lowenbrau Keller sounds like a good place for those who want to catch up - how about around 1.00pm? -A
