Hi All

Just a quick question - does anybody know where I can get a good tamper for a Saeco Via Vanezia? I don't think it justifies getting a custom tamper for $60, despite how good they are. I currently have a plastic tamper which has no weight - I was after nicely weighted one if possible (steel or aluminium).

P What is the diameter. I have some absolutely georgeous 52 mm in stock. Otherwise I can source one for you if you give me the size. Our latest ones have a detachable handle so you can also get additional bases for them when you upgrade. Call me. JD

I was told by the salesperson when I bought mine several years back (since replaced with a lovely Giotto), that it doesn't require one. When I checked the manual sure enough it states it doesn't need one, 'cause of the pressurised portafilter. Although deemed unecessary, I bought one and have used it ever since, mine was a plastic job, but would not reccommend you get one of those.

Hi Martyn True, the pressurised portafilter doesn't need a tamper, but I changed over to the non-pressurised one a few months back, and glad I did. I also had a plastic one which was better than the bottom of a glass, but didn't really cut it. Now, thanks to John, I am in possession of a platinum handled, diamond headed tamper for $5 (perhaps it was a polished aluminium one and perhaps it wasn't $5 - the fumes from burnt plastic may have been getting to me) Patrick

P What fumes????? Possibly it was the smell of the grape!!!! The $5 was for the trade in. JD

JD, if the 'grapes' smell like a burnt down office and furnishings, I will be a little hesitant in cracking the seal!  :P P

On tampers I have found the "Mother of all Tampers", it has a diameter of 102 mm. Yep that is just over 10 cm. Does anybody have a filter basket to suit. I will worry about the espresso machine later. JD PS. It weighs in at 2 kg

FC I actually have a few King Tampers in stock, as you have the thermo reserve, you may like one???? Could make a great paper weight!!!! JD

Hi Patrick, Bought a metal one at a local kitchenware shop that stocks VERY good quality items. Cost me $10, use it with my Via Venezia and it works like a charm. Perhaps I can find out the brand for you if you are interested. Regards, Eileen

Hi Eileen I actually picked up a good tamper from John (thanks again, JD). Works very well. THe only problem now is that I have slightly broken my pf - the little clip which holds the basket in place pivots on two 'spokes' - one of which broke off, so the clip has now broken off, and I can't get it back on the remaining 'spoke' with the spring in place. Oh well. Does anyone know of any other brand PF (eg Gaggia, etc) that may fit the Saeco? Cheers P

John I purchased said PF from FC. Apparently Saeco Australia can source one, but I can neither confirm nor deny. P[no]
