I also got some and roasted on the 4th..  I can't get a shot that is close to good.  More like the crap I get at the airport... Tried up dosing / grind but always the same.  If I go fine and tamp hard it pours very slow but still watery ??? Has some interesting flavours but I can not nail it... Am cleaning the grinder this morning and going back to a home roast to see if I can get a great coffee.  Then I will know for sure that its not me or the machine but the way I am treating the bean... Also noticed that the ones I have are much lighter than my normal roast.
I never did get this one quite right - 'watery' was definitely an apt description, despite the nice flavours. Along with another purchased roast I thought I'd either lost the knack or my gear was faulty. Turns out I just don't know how to brew beans that weren't roasted by me! My roast from Sunday is getting thick, gloopy crema, nice tiger mottling and tastes spot on!
  • I had some good shots.  It's a lighter roast than my own but with a fine grind I got some nice pours.  AM as above, try dosing a little less with a finer grind. Lovely flavours in this.  I really loved it.  I was drinking with milk mostly but tried a long black too.
  • Absolutely, I feel like it's something that would be incredible as cold press.
  • I got a perfectly acid balanced cup from it, smooth with nice well rounded flavors, nothing sticking out. I could not get the fruitcake flavors like we got on the Quickmill but still a very good coffee. it has at least one very hard bean in that blend that brings my hand grinder to a full stop. If a newbie like me can do it with my simple equipment, you guys can.
  • My supply is gone now, but as much as I appreciated it, this roast isn't to my taste. Far too vibrant for my palate.
  • I made one this morning with milk, Very lively, more so that I usually have but I very much enjoyed it!
  • I wonder if there will be a Stable Treat 2013???
  • I just got an email from Neil at Ministry Of Grounds and he confirmed that there will be a Stable Treat for 2013!  Woohoo.  This was like Christmas pudding in a coffee last year.  I hope this year will be just as good. Neil Said "The blend will be different to last years, as most of the beans we used last year are not available this year, and one key bean is, but is (naturally) slightly different to last crop.  Anyhow, hopefully in the next week or so, something will be up in the store :)" I can't wait.  Anyone on the sunshine coast want to put in a group buy to save on postage?  C-Man, Kelsey?
  • Yeah, I could go in for some of this too.
  • Any other takers on the Sunshine Coast, if not it's a 3 way split! :)  500gm each?
  • My guess is the renderer James would also be good to go I am sure of it, so make it 4
  • Righty Ho Ho Ho.  Stable Treat 2013 is available. http://ministrygrounds.com.au/stable-treat-2013.html I will be ordering tomorrow am so if you want it let me know asap. So far I have Kelsey, C-Man, C-Man renderer, and me. 500gm each ok?  Price will be $22 including postage.
  • Sounds great man, I'm in!
  • confirmed with renderer James so 2- 500gr bags here
  • Can I put an order in? Separate postage though; to Brisbane? Or is that too awkward? I can always order off the website anyway....
  • Ol Grumpy, it's probably going to be more expensive for you because we are all up here on the Sunshine Coast.  I do know that BrettH ordered some last year and enjoyed it, but maybe you Brissy based folk can club togther to share the postage like we are doing. :) Express post 3kg bag is actually the cheapest they offer, just order in 1kg bags (if you order 500gm they charge more!).
  • Ol Grumpy, it's $25 for a 500gm bag or $37 for 1kg.  It's a fantastic blend.  This one is different to last year as you can expect because they will be using different beans, but last years was like a christmas pudding punching you in the face! :)  It really made by Christmas, so I just had to try it again! For all the Sunshine Coasters, the order is place.  I will let you know when it's arrived. :)
  • Sounds great... I won't be partaking this year but can't wait to read the reviews.
  • got mine, already getting some good smells from the unopened bag lets see how long I can wait.......
  • You waited?  I had one yesterday.  Yeah I know 2 days post roast, but I'm like a kid at christmas with coffee! Went to Kelseys today with his and wow, that L1 got a nice pour out.  Lovely machine, and we had to use his treat beans because that's all he had! lol.  Had two, wanted more,  but two's enough for the morning! :) Kelsey might want to join us with the mycuppa beans next year C-Man. :)
  • Go Kelsey! sounds  cool I am still waiting only because I forgot, lets hope that is a good thing.....
  • I have to admit that last year I didn't enjoy the stable treat massively. I appreciated it, but it just wasn't my kind of roast. A year on, two things have changed: 1) Lamkin Lane has broadened my horizons considerably and I now enjoy and appreciate a much wider range of coffee 2) The LONDINIUM I changes things considerably. Now I can taste the balance of the flavours (and I enjoy those flavours more than I did last year) it really does have the flavour of a fruity christmas cake. It's a lovely blend and I wished I'd ordered more now!
  • mine is getting good now
